HomeMy WebLinkAbout022972 ORD - 06/24/1997AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE STANDARD PLUMBING CODE, ADOPTED BY SECTION 13-6, CODE OF ORDINANCES, CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TO REQUIRE THE INSTALLATION OF DRIP IRRIGATION IN MEDIANS IN THE CITY'S RIGHTS OF WAY AND NARROW STRIPS OF VEGETATION IN PARKING LOTS; PROVIDING FOR PENALTIES; PROVIDING FOR SEVERANCE; AND PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. Thes Standard Plumbing Code, as adopted by Section 13-6, Code of Ordinances, City of Corpus Christi, is amended by adding a new Section 925.1 to the Standard Plumbing Code, to read as follows: 925 Irrigation Systems 925.1 Drip Irrigation Systems Any irrigation system located within or designed to irrigate the vegetation located within the following areas shall use "drip" emitters or soaker type hoses instead of spray heads: 1. In the right of way between the sidewalk and curb. 2. Within five feet of the paved surface of the right of way when there is no sidewalk. 3. Within narrow strips of vegetation between the sidewalk or curb and a parking lot which is less than five feet wide. Spray or rotary heads may not be installed in wider strips of vegetation if the head will spray water onto the street or the paved area of the parking lot when installed according to the manufacturer's recommended installation specifications for the maximum available pressure at the specific spray or rotary head when derated for average nighttime wind speed 4. Within narrow strips of vegetation within a parking lot. which is less than five feet wide. Within any median. including a traffic island. which is less than five feet wide. within the right of way. Spray or rotary heads may not be installed in a wider median if the head will spray water onto the street or the paved area of the parking lot when installed according to the manufacturer's recommended in tallation specifications for the maximum available pressure at the specific spray or rotary head. when derated for average nighttime wind speed. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction, it shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance, for it is the definite intent of this City Council that every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision hereof be given full force and effect for its purpose. SECTION 3. A violation of this ordinance or requirements implemented hereunder shall constitute an offense, punishable as provided in Section 1-6 of the City Code of Ordinances. SECTION 4. Publication shall be made in the official publication of the City of Corpus Christi as required by the City Charter of the City of Corpus Christi.
