PROPOSING CREATION OF A CRIME CONTROL AND PREVENTION
DISTRICT PURSUANT TO STATE LAW
WHEREAS, crime control and prevention is of the highest priority for this City Council;
and
WHEREAS, the Texas Legislature this year amended the Crime Control and Prevention
District Act (Article 2370c-4, V.A.C.S.) to allow cities of greater than 5,000 population to create a
crime control and prevention district; and
WHEREAS, creation of a crime control and prevention district, after voter approval, would
provide additional needed resources for crime control and prevention.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. The City Council hereby proposes the creation of a crime control district,
called the Corpus Christi Crime Control District, coterminous with the city limits of the City of
Corpus Christi, when authorized by the qualified voters of the City at an election for that purpose
in accordance with the Crime Control and Prevention District Act.
SECTION 2. The City Council will consider the appointment of temporary directors of the
proposed district at its meeting on July 15, 1997.
