HomeMy WebLinkAbout023073 RES - 09/23/1997RESOLUTION URGING THE MEMBERS OF THE TEXAS DELEGATION TO THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS TO SUPPORT THE ENACTMENT INTO LAW OF HOUSE BILL 1984 AND SENATE BILL 1084. WHEREAS, on July 18, 1997, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) revised the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for ozone and particulate matter. AND WHEREAS, the revised NAAQS, particularly those relating to particulate matter, were based on inconclusive scientific and technical data; AND WHEREAS, legislation is pending before the Congress of the United States that would reinstate for four years the previously existing air quality standards for ozone and particulate matter, require the EPA to conduct research on the health effects of fine particulate matter, require EPA to establish a monitoring program for fine particulate matter, and authorize $75 million for monitoring and research, plus $25 million for research on the causes of' asthma; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the Members of the Texas Delegation to the United States Congress are urged to support the enactment into law of House Bill 1984 and Senate Bill 1084.
