HomeMy WebLinkAbout023124 ORD - 11/11/1997AN ORDINANCE CREATING THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR THE CORPUS CHRISTI CRIME CONTROL AND PREVENTION DISTRICT PURSUANT TO THE TEXAS CRIME CONTROL AND PREVENTION DISTRICT ACT; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, on November 4, 1997, the voters of the City of Corpus Christi approved the creation of the Corpus Christi Crime Control and Prevention District dedicated to crime reduction programs and the adoption of a proposed sales and use tax at a rate of one-eighth of one percent; and WHEREAS, a board of directors must be created to govern the Corpus Christi Crime Control and Prevention District pursuant to the Texas Crime Control and Prevention District Act, Article 2370c-4, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1. The Code of Ordinances of the City of Corpus Christi is hereby amended by adding a new Division 21, CORPUS CHRISTI CRIME CONTROL AND PREVENTION DISTRICT, to Article IV, Chapter 2 of said Code, to read as follows: Sec. 2-240. Creation of district; appointment of members. Pursuant to Section 4.01(d) of the Texas Crime Control and Prevention District Act, the Board of Directors of the Corpus Christi Crime Control and Prevention District is hereby created, which shall consist of the same number of members as the City Council. One member of the Board of Directors shall be appointed by each member of the City Council to serve at the pleasure of that member of the City Council for a term that is concurrent with the term of the member of the City Council that appointed the Director. Sec. 2-241. Effective date of appointment. The appointment of a member of the Board of Directors or a replacement member shall be effective upon receipt by the City Secretary of the Council Member's written appointment of the Board Member. SECTION 2. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need for immediate action necessary for the efficient and effective administration of City affairs, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances at two regular meetings so that this ordinance is Rassed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the J / f 1 day of ink ar k:r(,_ i , 1997.
