AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES, CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, CHAPTER 2 TO REVISE THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE ARTS
AND CULTURAL COMMISSION FROM 17 MEMBERS TO 9 MEMBERS,
AND COMBINE THE MUSIC, DANCE, DRAMA MEMBERSHIP
CATEGORIES INTO NEW PERFORMING ARTS CATEGORY; AND
DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Code of Ordinances, Chapter 2, Administration , Article IV,
Miscellaneous Boards, Commissions and Committees, Division 6 Arts and Cultural
Commission is amended to read as follows:
"DIVISION 6. ARTS AND CULTURAL COMMISSION
Sec. 2-100. Established; function; membership.
There is hereby established an arts and cultural commission to act in an advisory
capacity to the city government in connection with the beautification and cultural
development of the city. Such commission shall consist of scventcen (17) nine (9)
members appointed by the mayor, subject to confirmation by a majority of the city
council representing the following categories:
(1) Marketing two (2) ane (1) representatives;
(2) Economic development/tourism two (2) one (1) representatives;
(3) Public space/public art two (2) one (1) representatives;
(4) Youth/education two (2) one (1) representatives;
(5) Music;Performinq Arts — one (1) representative;
(6) Visual arts- one (1) representative;
(7) Dance;
(8) Drama;
(9) (7) Architecture — one (1) representative;
{10) Texas A&M University Corpus Christi;
{11) Del Mar Collcge;
{12) Civic leader;
(8) Higher Education — one (1) representative; and
(--1-3--) (9) Business development g.ro.ups such as the Alliance, H+span c Chamber of
Commerce, etc. Business development groups/corporate — one (1) representative.

Sec. 2-101. Terms of members.
The members of said commission shall be appointed on the first day of September. One
(1) new member shall be appointed for a three-year term and the other shall be
appointed for a two-year term. Upon the expiration of each of the aforesaid terms of
office, the succeeding term of office for each of the seventeen (17) nine (9) members
shall thereafter be for a period of three (3) years.

SECTION 2. This ordinance takes effect on date of final approval by City Council.
SECTION 3. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase,
word or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or unconstitutional by final
judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction, it shall not affect any other section,
paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word, or provision of this ordinance, for it is the
definite intent of this City Council that every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause,
phrase, word or provision of this ordinance be given full force and effect for its purpose.
SECTION 4. Publication shall be made in the official publication of the City of Corpus
Christi as required by the City Charter of the City of Corpus Christi.
SECTION 5. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy
attached, the City Council (1) finds and declares an emergency due to the need for
immediate action necessary for the efficient and effective administration of City affairs
and (2) suspends the Charter rule that requires consideration of and voting upon
ordinances at two regular meetings so that this ordinance is passed and takes effect
upon first reading as an emergency measure this the(`ay of October, 2010.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance an
emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and
voting upon ordinances at two regular meetings: Ilwe, therefore, request that you
suspend said Charter rule and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is introduced, or
at the present meeting of the City Council.
