HomeMy WebLinkAbout030066 ORD - 01/21/20141 Ordinance changing the City of Corpus Christi's fiscal year from August 1 through July 31 to October 1 through September 30. Whereas, Article IV Section 2 of the City Charter provides that the fiscal year shall be set by ordinance, but shall not be changed more often than every four years except by two - thirds vote of the Council; Whereas, Ordinance No. 1027 adopted on November 23, 1939 established the fiscal year as August 1 through July 31, which has not been changed since that date; Whereas, City Council has considered changing the fiscal year to the period from October 1 through September 30, as this period is the fiscal year used by almost every city in Texas due to state law regarding the timing of property tax appraisal value remittances by local appraisal districts, as well as coinciding with the federal fiscal year for purposes of grant administration; Whereas, the City of Corpus Christi is changing its software applications, so the timing is right to make this change starting in fiscal year 2014; Now, therefore, be it ordained by the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas: Section 1. Corpus Christi City Council changes the fiscal year from August 1 through July 31 to October 1 through September 30, effective for fiscal year 2014.
