ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON COMMUNITY PRIDE

IV. Public Comment: Please be advised that the Open Meetings Act prohibits the committee from

statement of factual information, recite an existing policy in response to the inquiry, or advise the
citizen that this subject will be placed on an agenda at a later date. None
V. Business for Discussion and Possible Action:
A. Green and Clean Award
Bob Copes recapped Pinnacle Tattoo's award ceremony in mid
September.
Chair Schade explained Green and Clean Award to new members.
Bill Hoelscher inquired why there wasn't more emphasis on
shaming instead of rewarding.
Bill Hoelscher recommended moving Green and Clean to City
Council.
Board decided to maintain Green and Clean Award to maintain a
positive message.
Chair Schade opened the floor for new nominations form the
Committee:
Bob Copes stated that the Committee needed to have elected
officials at Green and Clean Award presentations.
B. Re-Pride-alization
i. Town Hall Meeting Block Walk
• Discussed issues to be prepared for during the
town hall meeting.
ii. Town Hall Meeting Discussion
• Discussed preparations for the Mayor's town hall
event that was scheduled for July 31"
• Different elements such as pd,solid waste,
etc.
• Bill Hoelscher recommends talking to Cam
Hook of PD to discuss problems around the
refinery area.
• Chair Schade "we would like to demolish
condemned buildings and paint decent ones
with murals that celebrate Corpus
Christi.
• Belinda Rocha stated there is an article that
demonstrates assistance to property owners
and will send it to the board.
C. Pride-Club
• Dusty Durrell of Picky Pete education program described
his program. He indicated that as he traveled the world
even third world countries he noticed they were clean.
Essentially students are taught to pick up trash when
they see it.
• Inspired Dusty created the Picky Pete program which
used this practice within American schools.
• Dr. Kimberly Bisssell principle of Windsor Park
Elementary stated that Picky Pete was instrumental in
developing pride at Windsor park.
• Ms. Georganne Gassaway of Picky Pete commented that
the program creates a habit of picking up litter.
• Chair Schade asked how PRIDE Committee could help.
Ms. Gassaway replied that the board could invstigate
pickupschool.org.
According to Dr. Bissell all CC ISD schools are involved in Picl<y
Pete. Windsor Park goes through 200(green)wrist bands per
year.
Chair Schade gave a brief overview of Pride-Club for new
members of the board and stated that Picky Pete may be a good
partnership.
Christina Hernandez commented that Rose Shaw
Elementary school may not be a candidate for Pride-
Club and that there may be some challenges which
may encourage the Committee to look into other
schools.
Dawn Stubblefield (CC Educator)was introduced to the PRIDE
Committee and offered to take over the search for schools to
participate in PRIDE CLUB.
Chair Schade commented that she would like to use the Picky
Pete format for PRIDE Club.
D. Litter Plan
i. Litter Index Survey/Measurement
Various techniques were discussed including Adopt-a-Beach
surveys and the need for measurement and update of litter
efforts.
ii. Litter Ordinance
• Angela: Is working on updates for Interim ACM
Mark Van Vleck and City Manager Ron Olson.
• Chair Schade proposed that PRIDE becomes
involved with the litter ordinance as the"voice"
of the plastic bag ordinance fee.
• Paul Gottmoller explained the transaction fee to
new members.
• Angela stated that Staff felt confident that if
litter ordinance is passed the City could look
back into a Plastic Bag ban.
• Chair Schade motioned to become involved as
the voice in support of the Plastic Bag
Ordinance. Paul Gottmoller seconded.
• Paul Gottmoller then argued to hold off until
there is more clarification of what the ordinance
will state. Chair Schade stated that she would
meet with the Mayor on Friday October 4t"and
ask for clarification.
• Frank Franklin motioned to table the item as a
no vote until next meeting. Bob Copes seconded
and the board agreed.

on Mayor's calendar.
