ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON COMMUNITY PRIDE

IV. Public Comment: Please be advised that the Open Meetings Act prohibits the committee from responding
and discussing your comments at length. The law only authorizes members to make a statement of factual
information, recite an existing policy in response to the inquiry, or advise the citizen that this subject will be
placed on an agenda at a later date. None
V. Business for Discussion and Possible Action:
A. Support for WBAC anti litter resolution
Letter of support has been submitted to City Council.
B. Pride Shirts-Stefany Schade
Stefany would like to pay for PRIDE shirts.
Angela Gonzalez will set up meeting with Bob Copes, and Oscar Carmona.
PRIDE Committee would like a budget.
Bill Hoelscher inquired if the City has a grant writer.
C. Subcommittees:
• Re-Pride-alizaton- Stefany:
The City has done continuous cleanups and painting of underpasses on the Agnes
Laredo Corridor.
Over 200 volunteers showed up.
Next step: RePride will work with other organizations to address vacant buildings.
Bob Copes stated that there may be allot of legal issues to demolish buildings.
Paul Gottemoller asked who would be liable for vacant lot.
Angela Gonzales (Clean City Coordinator) will ask Eddie Ortega(Neighborhood
Services) to meet with PRIDE.
Bill Hoelscher: there needs to be a way to use immanent domain.
Stefany: Someone should look into one building and see what we can do.
Angela Gonzales (Clean City Coordinator) Code is working on Vacant Building bill.
Bob Copes: Talk to Westside Business Association.
• Pride Club Christina
Christina and Stefany met with Angie Gonzales from Rose Shaw Elementary about
Pride Club. It will start in January 2014. The Picky Pete idea was popular with
Angie Gonzales.
Christina will be allowed to meet with Rose Shaw twice a week.
Martin Middle School is feeder school for Rose Shaw.
• Green and Clean Award:
Will be presented in council sessions.
• Litter Ordinance:
Discussion of the current litter ordinance options that would be presented to Council.
• Media relations:
Jeff Craft: There may not need a full subcommittee and may be a separate entity.
Bob Copes: Kim and Angie may need to handle press releases on behalf of PRIDE.
Jeff Craft: for media relations has sent out the resolution.
Bill Hoelscher: wants to know if PRIDE can send out press releases or do they need
to go through Mayor.
Chair Copes: Green and Clean award January will be a test...
Bill Hoelscher PRIDE can be the cheerleader.
Stefany Schade said we should do a press release on PRIDE Club.
Frank Franklin may be able to help with media relations.
Green and Clean on 21 st and need Oscar's assistance.
