DIRECTOR'S REPORT: Mr. Beynon, gave two months statistics: Impounds decreased; live
impoundment and euthanasia increased, peaking in May with over 1000 cats from which 855 were
euthanized (decrease anticipated after new kitten season) ; cat its increased; miscellaneous
animals increased due to better accounting. Municipal Court on new computer system thus
citation revenue no longer available on main frame; access low priority its and may take
months (value and accuracy of information questionable) . 3 part-time helpers entering animal
licenses into computer s o n umber of licenses should increase. Rabies in 4 county area: 1 cat,
2 dogs, and 9 coyotes; last reported case 5/31191; anticipate lull due to the end of breeding
season, but not out of the woods yet. Kennel worker and road officer positions are open;

Inspections and permits to be done this month. Mr. Beynon has been awarded Humanitarian
Award. Governor Richards to sign automatic spay-neuter law effective 1-1-92; requires much
follow-up; it is not known yet. how this will be handled locally.
'W BUS_TNES5: Elections: Dr. Hughes was elected Chairman and Fred Greenberg Vice-Chairman.
member asked if their number can be increased. Dr. Sisley reports City Council says no.
Humane Society was doubling their adoptions with the PAWS booth Councilman Guerrero provided
at Sunrise Mall, however, food ordinance requires animals be distance of 500 feet from food
services and no mall areas meet this criteria. Mr. Bey non had been unaware of the adoption
booth activity. Even the Coliseum can' t legally comply with the ordinance during animal shows
or a circus and keep concessions open. A suggestion was made for an awning covered of
outside the all as a temporary solution, but indoor area is needed. An ordinance change
should be explored to decrease required footage, or allow exemption for charitable
organizations. Purpose of the ordinance is to avoid contamination of foodstuff. Another
suggestion was to have adoption booth only occasionally and classify as special event. Dr.
Sisley reported that a special event exemption to the ordinance has been requested, but has
not yet been passed, however this still requires a 500 foot distance from food services. Mr.
Beynon wants to increase the ordinance footage for livestock and fowl.
Ms. Dillon presented article on San Mateo, California disallowing any pet breeding for six
months; 7-1-91 breeding to be permitted by license only; owners of unneutured animals to be
fined. . .a movement to stop euthanasia. Dr. Sisley questions enforcement. Ms. Justice says
American Kennel Club against it. Humane Society spays. and neuters all adopted pets.
Members given copies of Health Dept. budget requests; suggested chairman and vice-chairman
attend the City's informal budget hearing. More funds needed for 2 more AC Officers.
Ms. Justice: Am. Kennel Club has 2 dog shows per year; shows neutered animals supporting less
-nimal population. . .quality vs. quantity; Club being encouraged to be involved in legislation;
)vernor Richards has not signed the vicious dog law yet; Calif. disallows showing of pit-bull
types; Club desires more Board involvement in anti-breed groups; contact her at 241-1124, 4030
Rehfeld, Corpus Christi, TX 78410 with questions; interest in Board membership.
There being no further business to conduct, Mr. Greenberg adjourned the meeting at 3:00 p.m.
