Chn$tl Corpus Christi-Nueces County Health Department MEMBERS PRESENT: Michael Hughes, A.V.M. Chairman; Fred Greenburg; Paula Garnett ; Mary V. Penuel ; Larry French; Alicia G. Benavidez MEMBERS ABSENT: Cissi Sweeney STAFF PRESENT: Dr. Sisley; Cynthia Hillen; Jeff Beynon CALL TO ORDER: 2 :00 p.m. by Dr. Hughes . October minutes approved. ATTENDANCE REVIEW: All members in good standing . DIRECTOR'S REPORT: Mr. Beynon reported a decrease in the number of dogs impounded due to a decreased number of bite cases and an increased number of trap pickups--about 25 of calls are for trap pickups . Investigations and citation revenues have increased. A record high number of opossums were euthanized for unknown reasons . Due to the high number of daily calls, an average of 30-50 calls are being carried over to the next day. A record amount of licenses were issued in the last 6-8 weeks; Animal Control is out of licenses , but anticipates receiving some in the next few days. The rabies outbreak is in an active state. A confirmed rabid coyote was found on Padre Island, which has resulted in a large volume of phone calls to Animal Control . Reduced fee clinics are set up this weekend at 4 locations and next weekend another 3 will be open. More Animal Control officers will be utilized on weekends, beginning in a couple of weeks . Mr. Beynon said that on 11/18/91 the kennels will be fully staffed; on 12/2/91 the Data Entry Clerk position will be filled; one Animal Control Officer II position remains open but will be filled in the near future. CONTINUING BUSINESS: The bid for new kennel gates is still pending in Purchasing Dept . NEW BUSINESS: Flyers and school newspapers are carrying messages of rabies and information on the reduced fee clinics . Dr. Sisley informed members that Animal Control is now receiving as many as 250 calls daily. MOTION APPROVED: To send letter of "Thanks" to Coastal Bend Veterinary Medical Association for helping at the reduced fee clinics . - ADJOURNMENT: At 2 : 25 p, m.
