HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Animal Care Advisory Committee - 07/11/1999 Minutes CITY ANIMAL CONTROL ADVISORY COMMITTEE Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health Department Administrative Conference Room, 1702 Horne Road July 11, 1999 Members Present: Ben McDonald, Denny Bales, Dr. Steve Lee, Barbara Airheart, Drew Reining Members Absent: Pamela Hoge-Smith, D.V.M., Ada Goodman Staff Present: Dr. Nina M. Sisley, Roger Barker and Jeff Beynon Call to Order: Dr. Steve Lee called the meeting to order at 12:40 p.m. A motion to approve the June 10, 1999 minutes was called. The motion was seconded and approved. Attendance Review: Drew Reining was not present at the June Advisory Committee Meeting. A motion to approve her absence was called. The motion was seconded and approved. Dr. Sisley checked the attendance sheet and everyone is in good standing. Supervisor's Report: June report was given by Jeff Beynon. The number of dog bites reported has decreased due to dogs finishing nursing their offspring. Adoptions and reclamation have increased this month. Jeff mentioned that Parvo is showing up in the kennels especially in the young. Possums have decreased due to gardens being dried up. However, with all the rain we have had these past weeks we night see the possums coming back out. Rabies Report: Given by Jeff Beynon, Animal Control Supervisor. Only one rabies case was reported in June in Cameron County from a bat. Jeff also mentioned that the rabies drop for Texas has been funded but the drop for Central Texas was not funded. New Business: The committee discussed the need for a new Animal Control Facility. Dr. Sisley mentioned that the City Council was aware of the need for the new facility. The Council will approve the 1999-2000 budget by the end of the month. The next City Council meeting will be on Tuesday, July 13th at 2:00 p.m. The Board asked Dr. Sisley if she thought they should attend the City Council meeting. Dr. Sisley mentioned that it certainly wouldn't hurt but she did not think it would make a significant difference. Dr. Sisley also spoke to the Advisory Board regarding the budget cuts. The hurricane pamphlets are available and will be passed out at the next Advisory Board meeting. The Advisory Board decided not to take a break since the May meeting had been cancelled. Denny Bales mentioned that he would like to obtain a copy of the Capital improvement Plan. Adiournment: The meeting adjourned at 1:10 p.m. The next meeting will be held Thursday, August 12, 1999, at 12:30 p.m. in the Administration Conference Room of the Health Department, 1702 Horne Road.
