July 11, 1999 minutes was called. The motion was seconded and approved.
Attendance Review: Pamela Hoge-Smith was not present at the July Advisory Committee Meeting. A
motion to approve her absence was called. The motion was seconded and approved. Roger Barker checked
the attendance sheet and everyone is in good standing except for Ada Goodman. Ms. Goodman was
appointed to the Committee on June of 1999 and has not been able to attend any meetings thus far. A motion
was made to ask Ms. Goodman if she was still interested in serving on the committee. Denny Bales will ask
Ms. Goodman and advise the committee.
Supervisor's Report: July report was given by Jeff Beynon. For the month of July the number of stray
dogs is the same. The numbers reduced dramatically for cats. As far as miscellaneous animals the numbers
have come down. We have brought in 5 pigs. Miscellaneous calls and number of investigations are up
slightly and will climb up during the month of August. The committee informed Mr. Beynon that
Compassion for Animals is continuing low cost spaying and neutering. Mr. Beynon informed the committee
that Animal Control Officers are becoming more efficient. Animal Control has now extended their hours in
the mornings, evenings and on weekends to better serve the community.
Rabies Report: Given by Jeff Beynon, Animal Control Supervisor. There were no cases for July however,
there was one decomposed coyote that did show symptoms. Jeff also mentioned that due to the abusiveness
in the use of the drug Ketamine the Federal Register has now placed it on Schedule III.
New Business: The committee again expressed their concerns on the matter of the new Animal Control
facility. The committee asked Roger Barker for any updates on the planning of a new Animal Control
Facility. Mr. Barker told the committee that the Animal Control Facility is included in the planning for the
2000 Bond Election. The committee again expressed their concerns on how crucial this new facility is
needed and about the facility's lease expiring. Ben McDonald brought the committee a newspaper article
regarding Master Trainer Co. and asked Jeff Beynon if he knew anything about it. Mr. Beynon briefly
brought the committee up to date on circumstances concerning this issue.
Adiournment: The meeting adjourned at 1:30 p.m. The next meeting will be held Thursday, September 9,
1999, at 12:30 p.m. in the Administration Conference Room of the Health Department, I702 Horne Road.
