A motion was called to excuse Dr. Smith's absence. The motion was seconded and approved. Supervisor's Resort: The September report was given by Dr. Sisley. Dr. Sisley indicated that there was not a great deal of differences between September 1998 and September 1999. There were 38 dogs adopted during the month of September. Dr. Sisley indicated this may be due to the amount of publicity the Animal Control Facility has received on euthanizing animals. Investigations are the same for the previous month and the previous year. Rabies Report: Given by Dr. Sisley. There was a rabid steer in Star County. This is a serious matter and we all need to be on alert. New Business: A letter was sent to City Council member, Dr. Arnold Gonzales, regarding the $30,000 anonymous donation. This letter indicated that the responsibilities between the Human Society and the Animal Control Facility would be shared in order to prolong the adoption process for adoptable animals. The Humane Society can accommodate all animals under 20 lbs. and they are trying to create space for larger animals with their portion of the contribution ($18,000). The Animal Control Facility will be purchasing flea/tick collars and immunizing materials with their portion of the contribution ($12,000). The collars and vaccinations will help to protect the adoptable animals until they are adopted. Dr. Smith told Dr. Sisley that she would send her a copy of the proposal that was sent to Council member Arnold Gonzales. A letter was received from Susan Theim regarding monies received to renovate/restore the Humane Animal shelter which is located next to the Animal Control Facility. Denny Bales mentioned to the committee that they were looking into implementing a Senior Citizens adoption package for $30.00. This would enable senior citizens to afford to adopt an animal and have the animal vaccinated. Dr. Sisley and Jeff Beynon met with the legal department on September 8, 1999 to discuss housekeeping changes on the Animal Control City Ordinance and commercial establishment permits. The City Council will hold a workshop on a bond election which will include a new Animal Control Facility. Adiournment: The meeting adjourned at 1:30 p.m. The next meeting will be held Thursday, November 11, 1999, at 12:30 p.m. in the Administration Conference Room of the Health Department, 1702 Horne Road.
