Attendance Review: Roger Barker went over the attendance sheet and everyone is in good standing. A motion to excuse Barbara Airheart and Dr. Pamela Hoge-Smith for their November 11, 1999 absence was approved. Supervisor's Report: Jeff Beynon gave the November report. Jeff indicated that bite cases are lower due to holiday time and cooler weather. Animal Control did not transfer any dogs to the Humane Society in the month of November. This is because the Humane Society was not accepting any animals due to their facility having many sick dogs with Parvo. Jeff mentioned that they were starting to see an increase in supplemental animals such as javelinas and deer carcasses on the sides of the road. Euthanizations are down due to holiday time. Citations are expected to go down this month due to Animal Control Officers being in the Christmas spirit and the retirement of Officer Tony Maldonado. Rabies Report: Given by Jeff Beynon. There were only four positive cases reported in Webb County in November, all in bats. The next oral bait drop will be in January 2000 in Kingsville, TX. New Business: Jeff told the committee that he was called out on Wednesday, November 23, 1999 to Christi Estates to capture several snakes from an apartment and from a pickup truck. There were 10 poisonous snakes, a python and a Savannah monitor at the site. The poisonous snakes were destroyed on site by Animal Control. The python and the Savannah monitor were taken back to the Animal Control Facility. Jeff informed the committee that gangs such as the Texas Syndicate and the Mexican Mafia, are turning to poisonous snakes to enforce payment of drugs instead of using firearms. Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 1:05 p.m. The next meeting will be held Thursday, January 13, 2000, at 12:30 p.m. in the Administration Conference Room of the Health Department, 1702 Home Road.
