Jeff indicated that the number of investigations went up significantly. This is probably contributed to the no shelter complaints due to the cold weather. its cases were down slightly. There was an increase in the number of dead cats being picked up on the streets. This is probably contributed to cals trying to find shelter at night with increased traffic due to the holiday scason. &No-ReDo L Given by It Beynon. There were two positive cases of rabies reported in Public E Health Region 11 during December. The first caw was a Mexican freetailcd bat from Edinburg in Hidalgo County and a Mexican frectailed bat fmm Corpus Christi in Nueces County. There were no human exposures to these rabid bats. The South Texas portion of the 2001 0ml Rabies Vaccination Progmm (ORVP)will bcgin January 8. 2001 in Cotulla. There will be 770,000 baits dropped over 11.000 squam miles in a band frorn Eagle Pass to Brownsville. Jeff Ba n went over the use of tethers to restrain an animal with the board members. He passed out a out with the proposed additions to Chapter 6 of the Code of Ordinances to each board member for their review, The board recommends that the tethering ordinance be approved as amended. Ile board also discussed the issue of animals riding in the beds of pickup trucks, Dr. Sisley informed the board that this concern needs to be passed by the Corpus Christi Police Department. A motion was made to send the ordinance for the unsecured load to the Corpus Christi Police Department for their review. The revised description of the membership of the Animal Control Advisory Board was discussed. NmBM-91—nes st Jeff Beyn placed the blue prints for the City's new AnimalNector Facility for the board members to view. Jeff went over the blue prints with the board members and answered any questions they had concerning the new facility. The new n° ter Control Facility will be located at the City's Service Cen w on Holly Road. Roger Barker stated that the S2.8 million dollar budget approved by the voters may be insufficient to it the pf0posed liwility. With A/E fees exceeding the budget by S100,000 it is hoped that bids come in to for construction to stay within budget.
