CITY ANIMAL CONTROL ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Corpus Christi-Nucces County Public Health District

Members Present: Drew Reining, Gail Hoffman, Barbara Airlieart, Susan Thiern,
Denny Bales
Members Absent: Dr. Steve Lee
to Present: Dr. Nina M. Sisley, Jeff Be3 Roger Barker
Guests: County Animal Control Advisory Board
Public Meeting held in the Auditorium of the Ilealth Department at 11:30 a.m. to discuss the
proposed tethering ordinance. Meeting ended at 12:30 p.m. and the regular monthly Animal Control
Advisory Meeting was then held.
Call to Order: Drew Reining called the meeting to order at 12:40 p.m. The minutes for the May
10, 2001 meeting were approved as written.
Attendance Review: Dr. Sisley went over the attendaces et with the committee members. The
board excused Denny Bale's absence from the May monthly meeting.
Supervisor's Report: Jeff Bey non gave the report for the month of June. There has been a major
increase in donations due to puppies being donated. He also indicated that bite cases were up
slightly. The redeemed by owners and adopted were down because when they go through a sick
period of parvo and distemper it does affect the health of the animals in the facility. Animal Control
is reluctant to adopt out animals that have been exposed t o t hese diseases. The numbers of cats are
continuing to increase due to people-continuing to use traps. Possum numbers are beginning to fall
due to gardens beginning to mature and bum up.
Rabies Report: Given by Jeff Beynon. No cases were reported for the month of May.
New Business: Dr. Sisley informed the board that if they knew of anyone who was interested in
serving on the Animal Control Advisory Board they needed to submit a Biographical Information
Form
tot City Secretary's Office. There are currently two positions open on the advisory board.
The
it Secretary's Office will submit these names tote City Council for their review and
appointment. Judi Sisson expressed her interest in serving on t e a dvisory board.
Old Business: An ordinance change concerning tethering will be prepared at the City's Legal
Department for the committee to review at the next board meeting.
Adi urnment: The meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m. The next meeting will be held Thursday, July
12, 2001 at 12:30 p.m. in the Administration Conference Room of the Health Department, 1702
