no more than the lower cost for the pet registrations.Ms.Copeland asked what Animal Care has done in the
past for these events.Dr.Watson replied that they had rabies classes and the advertising. Ms.Taube added
that the prices for registrations were reduced for this week;Ms.Copeland replied that we would continue to
do that. Ms.Copeland also inquired what kind of advertisement was done for Pet Week. Dr.Watson replied
that the veterinarians would offer low price injections for that week.. Ms,Copeland added that we can look
into for next year in conjunction with our Volunteer Program,

• Ms.Copeland handed out the Volunteer Manual to view.Ms.Copeland pointed out that Ms.Massad had
helped out in finding us our new Volunteer Coordinator,Ms.Deanne Anderson. Ms.Anderson has organized
3 meetings so far with the new program and at this time we have 6 adults and approximately 12-15 high
school students that come in to bathe and walk the dogs. The volunteers will go on the tours with the staff so
they can do these for adoptions, eventually they will be doing the interview for the adoptions. The Volunteer
Manual is one that was used in the past and had to make some adjustments;which has worked well. Ms.
Anderson has also connections with Grande Entertainment and they will be running two 20 second
commercial attached to the Sames Crow Commercials for ACS.Our Media department has put together
pictures and video for adoption and volunteerism.
• Ms.Copeland added that the adoption program is going very well;we are successfully running the animals
through the adoption quarantine. At this time we are not adopting out puppies and aill animals are running
thru the adoption quarantine procedures. In the quarantine time they are vaccinated and altered before
going to the adoption building. The building is full at this time due to Dr.House having pneumonia last week
and the animals were not spayed or neutered yet.
• Ms,Copeland pointed out that we are fighting Upper respiratory in the kennels but we have been able to
keep it out of the adoption kennels with the quarantine processes and the antibiotic water. Ms.Copeland
added that we have people going out and interacting with the adoptive animals. Ms.Copeland also added
that we will get people that are not ready yet but let us know they will be back to look again.
• Ms.Copeland pointed out that the noise you have been hearing is one of the Pomeranian's that is left. Ms,
Copeland added that there were two Fire and Sharky,if you came near them or try to take them out they
would panic at the openness and would go into a comer. There were some animals that we could not sex
due to the hair needing cut away and they would try to bite when we did this. Ms.Copeland introduced Fire
who's name was changed to Rafael to the committee and Ms.Rose. Ms.Copeland did advise that at this
time he is still snappy and would not be adapted out to a family with kids, only adults. Ms.Copeland added
that once Rafael is adopted we will focus on Sharky. Ms.Keyes asked if Ms.Copeland was going to keep
him.Ms.Copeland replied no. Ms.Copeland added that Channel 6 was out again to do a follow up on
Rafael.
• Ms.Copeland wanted to point out information on how much the Humane Society charges for the
Pomeranians'which is$385.00. Ms.Copeland added that they left ACS altered and vaccinated, the teeth
have not been done and at this time Rafael is being treated for Whip Worm. Ms.Copeland added that if
someone is willing to spend the 385.00 for a pom that has been completely vatted, then they would not have
been willing to pay to get the dogs into good health, that will cost a lot more to do so.
• Ms.Copeland added that Ms.Casas had cut her hand on a dog food can, when she came it wasn't that bad
but you could see the blood and had mentioned that Rafael got me. Ms.Copeland was surprised but Ms.
Casas said she was only kidding, because we do not adopt out animals that have bitten. Ms.Copeland
added that there was a couple that was interested, talked about the teeth, after the couple got home and
thought more about it they realized that they would not be able to.
• Ms.Copeland reminded the committee about the Code 3 promoting the shelter and training the staff.Ms.
Copeland added that she felt for promoting of the facility is best used for people in to volunteer to handle
animals in emergency situations and this is more beneficial at this time.
• Ms.Copeland reminded the committee about the high numbers in the statistics with the numbers skewed
with the surgery numbers. These numbers have come down to 46 which is 10%which is more realistic.
The altered animals are down due to the vet being out sick.Dr.Watson noted that it appears there are more
male dogs. Ms.Copeland replied that it was surprising when we were getting more girls. It seems to be a
cultural thing;people do not want to get the male dog altered.
(C) Clinic Report
Animal Controls dvisory Committee Afeefing Alards 2 0m,2008
Ms.Copeland informed the committee that Ms.Casas was able to get a donation check from Sams Club for$1,000.00.
The monies will go towards having a new washing machine and dryer for the clinic and also more bowls for the
kennels.
• Dr.Watson asked how the"Adopt a Kennel"was going. Ms.Copeland replied that there has not been many
in a while and asked if any of the members had done one.Ms.Keyes and Mr.Schroeder said that they had
done one. Ms.Copeland let them know that they we will have it taken care of before the next meeting. Ms.
Copeland added that we have 2 volunteers that saw the"Adopt a Kennel"and they have said they would be
doing one. Ms.Keyes asked if it had been advertised,Ms.Copeland replied that it has been mentioned with
Channel 6 and Channel 10.
5. Unfinished Business
Ms.Keyes pointed out that she did here from Petsmart and they were notable to save any bandanas. Ms.Copeland
added that the Dr.Watson had brought some in with pill bottles;there was also one morning Ms.Copeland saw a bag
of what she thought was trash but it was pill bottles.
6. New Business
Ms.Keyes wanted to note that the Earth Day will be coming up at Cole Park and didn't think we were involved last
year.Ms.Copeland mentioned that she had heard of it but does not know much about it. Ms.Keyes replied that there
was a booth and we gave out spay 1 neuter information. We also had 2 or 3 adoptable animals ready to go. Ms.
Copeland replied that she would talk to Ms.Anderson about this to see how we can help out.
