Discussion,and,possible ARproval of M Inutes from June 17th,2010 Ms.Sterbach amended the minutes to reflect from pg 4 lit pars.'A golf tournament is very attentive.'should read'a golf tournament is very expensive." Mr. Schroeder made a motion to approve the minutes,Ms.Beynon 2nd the motion,Ms. Martinez abstained from her vote,motion passed. 3. Discussion and possible Approval of Absences from June 171h,2011 0 Dr.Watson asked Ms.Martinez about her absence.Ms.Martinez replied it's unexcused she had forgotten about the meeting.Dr. Watson not that Ms.Martinez absence would be not as unexcused, Mr.Schroeder made a motion to approve the unexcused absence for Ms.Martinez. Ms.Sterbach 2nd the motion all in favor motion passed. 4. Discussion of Monthly Regorts A. Zoonosis Report Dr.Watson informed the committee that the report was attached for viewing.No comments were made by the committee. B. Shelter Report Ms.Ramos informed the committee of the shelter numbers for the month of June as follows.The total adoptions were 2® 17 animals relocated;26 return to owners and 86 bile cases.Ms.Martinez asked about why the euthanasia went up.Ms.Ramos replied it wouldn't be unusual for this time of the year. It could be puppies or kittens and those have a higher mortality rate. Dr.Watson asked how we completed 60 surgeries an one page but on e other it states 87. Ms.Ramos replied t maybe ere is a difference with e owned and sheltered animals.The commilee discussed which would reffect owned animals or incoming for surgery between outgoing animals and altered animals a shelter report.Ms.Ramos reported l the total calls for service were 2,027. Ms,Martinez asked in reference to a surgeries for outgoing is 101 and the next page for altered animals is 133. Ms.Copeland replied that we have discussed this efore and I'm not sure what it is being done.We will need to took at the kennel cards and make sure everything is being one properly on out-coming a animal and if there was a mistake on a intake or outtae. Ms. Martinez asked if these could be our animals or the public's. Ms.Copeland replied t she would have the answer for the next meeting and added that both numbers should be the same. They should be documenting our animals and the citizen's number so we have a complete number. Ms.Copeland also added that this had been discussed fore and wasn't able to t to item at hand, I will have this done for the next meeting,Ms.Martinez also asked about the animals that the 10 dos and 6 cats at died. Ms.Copeland replied that there were 6 kennels that we closed due to parvo over the last monh so that is probably what it is. Dr.Watson asked about the bite cases under other shows 28. Ms.Copeland replied at would be bats that are tested. Mr. Schroeder asked if we had that many bites. Ms.Copeland replied no are not bites they are bats that are tested.They fall under bite cases because we send them and the reason we lest them is use 1 %Z of 1 %of all bats have rabies.With this scale you can gage if you are going to have a problem by i an eye on a bat population. If the percentage goes up for us; it will show a red flag for us and the State that something is going o . Ms,Copeland informed the committee that on l 14th we will be vi Vaccination Clinic and Ado t-a on at the shelter, This event will be used as a ground breaking for the Adoption Center that is being built by Career Development Class. It is a fenced in area with slab and have a bench in i the customers can go into with e adoptable animal they are interested in to interact with. Martinez came up With a idea for the Adopt-a-thon and we were working on a ground breaking and graciously agreed for us to put it together.The event will be here and it will be adverfised thru the City and have calls into the Fox affiliate Fred Hoffman. I put together a letter to the City Manager requesting a adoptions at a reduced fee or the animals at have been here over 30 days for the reduced fee. By giving tin we will have a better opportunity to have one approved. Ms.Copeland added that she tried speaking s. Parlamas and she will be available to speak with later today. nez added that the flyer has been completed.We will also be vin a linen drive,sheets,towels and blankets. All are being accepted we are in great need. The vaccinafion clinic will be With the Pet Taxi in front,we will be having the tent up for where the adopting will be done, Ms.Copeland added that we have requesting some of the vets,we have sent letters out to them requesting if they are interested in helping out with things like teeth cleaning for reduced fee or nail clipping. This would help to establish relationships with potential customers. °Copeland added that we will be having another event in a fall. Ms.Copeland also informed e committee that we ill be having cat neuter day in September. Dr.Whitlock will be volunteering her time for this event;it's possible for both of a to be able to do 100 surgeries. Ms.Martinez added that the title she came up with for the event is Flip to Snip, We will be selling drinks also for$1. We have volunteers at are animal knowledgeable which is . Ms.Copeland informed a committee that they had put a job offer in for an AC 2,which is Stephanie Gibson and we are also interviewing this week for another one.The position for the Field Supervisor has also been posted. We have been having hard time keeping the yard mowed and Parks and Recreation was able to help us out yesterday with that. Ms.Copeland added that it feels like we are getfing back on track and I owe Ms.Marfinez a great thanks for her help. Ms.Martinez and Ms.Person,also Mr,Schroeder showed up for the presentation for Council. Mr.Schroeder mentioned that he wasn't there maybe it was somewhere else. Martinez added that she had sent a ails to the Council. Ms.Copeland replied at it does help whether you show up or email them. It is a slow processes but we our getting back on track. Ms.Martinez added that the Face book page is being updated regularly. It also looks like Science Diet and Pedigree may be giving us free items to give away. We also have someone that has contact Medal that may be sending literature or sample,something to add to our goody bags for the animals that are adopted at the Adopt a Than. Ms.Copeland wanted to say a thank you for Mr.Jaime Guerrero,a former AC 02,he transferred to Code Enforcement,he did hate leaving but the change has been good. He found out that we were going thru a hard time and was willing to work on call for night shift. Ms.Copeland added that it made a difference in the to when he came to help out and that he was here for us. Dr. Watson asked if we were going to be able to pick up bodies yet;we have called and haven't been able to get them picked up yet, Ms.Copeland replied that we hadn't had any problems getting them picked up and asked if the call was made thru the Call Center. Dr.Watson replied yes and it was before noon. Ms.Copeland added that we had a vet that was not picked up the other day and we help them out. Ms.Copeland added that she out look into it,maybe something was entered incorrectly. Dr. Watson asked if we are allowed to drop off at no charge. Ms.Copeland replied yes. Dr,Watson inquired about the 3 year rabies vaccine going thru. Ms.Copeland replied yes and we just sent out a letter to all the veterinarians in reference to the vaccines. C. Clinic Report Ms.Copeland informed the committee the numbers fors and neuter was for the month of June. 5. Discussion.on new board members for the AnimalDntrot AdvisoEy QQmrnittee Ms.Copeland wanted to inform the committee that Dr.Whitlock has agreed to put in her application to serve on the board.She has worked for the Humane Society and a vet for the Houston Zoo. She is also going to be working the Neuter Clinic.Ms. Martinez asked what the price was going to be for the surgeries. Ms.Copeland replied that she is going to ask for a reduced rate and we are doing the at a to cost so I don't think they will make it lower.Ms.Martinez asked that we are of cats no dogs on that day. Ms.Copeland replied yes just cats. Dr.Watson informed the committee that he had let Mr.Chapa that Ms.Martinez wanted to be reappointed for her new to Ms. Copeland added that she was told that they wanted to both of the at the same time, Dr.Watson added the reason why she is up for reappointment is due to the fact that she replaced another member. The letter that I was sent that was Ms.Martinez was up for reappointment and she was eligible. Ms.Copeland added that if that is what you want to do then we can vote on that. Dr. Watson mentioned I think we already voted on Ms.Marfinez. Ms.Martinez asked if the cats are going to need their shots before the Snip day. Ms.Ramos added that Dr.House stated that we need to put it on the flyer that the animal's shots need to be current. Dr.Watson added that he will submit Dr.Whitlock so it can be done before the next meeting. Ms.Copeland asked about the voting for Dr.Whitlock. Ms.Martinez made a motion to approve Dr.Whitlock toe the veterinarian on the board.Mr.Schroeder 2nd the motion all in favor motion passed. Ms.Copeland asked if we needed to discuss who will be chairman. Dr.Watson replied that out be done at the next meeting with the new board members here and the election of officers. 6. Public Comments No public comments. 7. Identify Items to be placed,on,next agenda No items were added for the agenda at this time. Ms.Copeland wanted to note that our new director is Ms.Aurora Parlamas, she is the Assistant Director of the Health Department and she is my immediate contact. She has been wonderful to work with; she wasn't able to be here to but maybe next month.Ms.Beynon informed the committee that she out not be at the next month's meeting. B.
