Call to Order: Mr.Schroeder called them ling to order at 12:30. 2. Discuss Ion and possible Approval of Ml n utes from August 19t,2010 Ms. Beynon asked about pg 4 par. 5 where the Adopt-a-than was being discussed and asked where Pecan is. Ms.Martinez replied that it is Mc Caugh an Park-,it is next door to where the coliseums use to be,Ms.Martinez also noted that Ms.Person was not at the last meeting, Ms.Martinez amended the minutes to read Mc Caughan Park instead of Pecan Park. Ms.Martinez made a motion to approve the amended minutes,Ms.Sterbach 2nd the motion all in favor motion passed 3. Discussion and possible Approval of Absences fro August 191h,2010 Ms, Person stated that she was out due to taking a relative to the airport in San Antonio. Ms.Sterbach made a motion to approve the absence, Ms.Martinez 2nd the motion all in favor motion passed 4. Discussion of Monthly Reports A. Zoonosis Report Mr.Schroeder informed the committee that the Zoonosis Report was attached for viewing.Mr.Schroeder added that there was I bat for rabies in Nueces County. Ms.Beynon stated that she listens to a gardening show from San Antonio on the radio and they mentioned they were having rabies out-break, Dr.Whitlock added that it would be in the hill country,which usually starts in the spring. B. Sheiter,Report Ms.Ramos informed the commAee of the shelter numbers for the month of August there were a total of 65 adoptions/rescues, 31 retum-to-owner and 70 Bite Cases, There were also 927 incoming animals and 1 8114 calls far service.Ms.Schenzel added that the Bite Cases were up from last month because the area is almost full. City of Corpus Christi Animal Control Advisory Conimittee Meeting Ms.Beynon commented on how high the calls were for service. Ms.Ramos replied that the officers are doing their best to get them all done. Ms. Ramos added that she and Ms.Schenzel were taking care of the customer complaint calls when asking for a supervisor.Ms.Sterbach asked if the Galls for service included the dead animal is up and how long it takes to be picked up. Ms,Ramos replied yes and it would include those and multiple calls for the same dead animal or stray dog.Ms.Sterbach asked how long it lakes to pick one up because I had called for one and it took several days before it was picked up.Ms. Ramos replied it depends on which day it was called in.There is no pick on the weekends and or holidays.The is one officer that services the whole city in picking the up and they get as many as they can before they have to deliver them to the landfill. We make only 1 trip to the landfill at the end of the day. Ms.Schenzel added that we had one day where there was 60 calls.The animals that are picked up are owned and stray animals. Ms.Beynon asked so with the 60 calls and whether the animal is large o r s mall because some will take up more room,how any can they get before they go to the landfill. Ms.Schenzel replied that they make 1 trip to the landfill. They pick up until it is time for them to come in. Dr.Whitlock asked who picks up horses and the larger animals like that. Ms.Ramos added that it can be an owned animal;if my dog passed away I can call to have it picked up.Ms.Taube added that anything over 100 lbs is given to Solid Waste.Mr. Schroeder asked who picks up the horses.Dr.Whitlock added that it would be the owner's responsibility or the County they live in would have someone pick up.Ms.Beynon added that my friends who live outside city limits will bury them on the property. Ms.Ramos informed the committee the results for the Hip to Snip day.Dr.Whitlock was there to assist for the day. Dr.Whitlock we had a total of 24 scheduled for the surgeries,our hopes were to get 100 and am not sure how it all was advertised.Ms. Ramos added that there were flyers distributed throughout the City by volunteers and had some here at the office. We are limited to an extinct on how we can advertise because there is no money for it. Ms.Martinez added that we could have done press releases for it. Ms.Ramos added that there was the Adopt- - on,then the Hip to Snip and next we will be having the Mull Strutt. The Mutt Strutt will be on October 301h. We also had an event take place this past weekend which was Goose Feathers at Lamar Park. A lot was going on at the same time which may have eff ected on how well it was out, Dr.Whitlock added that with the amount that came in versus the surgery appointments made is about the 25%whIch is a typical amount. Ms.Ramos added that it was decided that morning we would take walk-ins up until 100 pm. We made the Call Center aware of the walk-in availability. Ms.Ramos felt that it went well for the first time and feel that we should do it again. Mr.Schroeder asked if there was a certain time. Ms.Ramos replied it was an all day event.Mr, Schroeder added that it looks good with the events that we are doing for the Ci s.Ramos added that we were also at Pet Smart on Saturday,, Ms,Person added that it would have gone better if Animal Control was able to come both days,for Saturday there was one adoption and was there from 11 am to 3 pm. The Cattery was there 9 am to 5 pm both days and had 10 adoptions. The next time we will be there is in November;maybe if it's possible if we were to staff the whole event. Ms. Person added that there 54 adoptions for the dogs that weekend. Ms.Martinez informed the committee that there were 3 dog adoptions at Goose Feathers and we raised approximately$1,200 to $1,500. The funds raised will be going directly to exactly what is want or needed at the shelter.Ms. Schenzel can work on a wish list for the shelter. Ms Schenzel found a couple of large cat condo's to go in the front office area when we want to display them there. C. Clinic Report Ms.Ramos informed the committee there were 3 TAR cats altered and 90 for the public surgeries for the month of August. 5. Presentation and introduction of newly appointed members Mr.Schroeder added that since Ms.Tamoski was not at today's meeting we will put the its for introduction to newly appointed members for next month. Ms, Beynon asked that she was appointed. Mr.Schroeder replied yes. 6. Public Comments No public comments. City of Corpits Christi Animal Control Advisory Committee Meeting 7. Identffy Items to be placed on next agenda Mr.Schroeder had pictures to show of what is going up on the Pet Taxi and explained what the Pet Taxi is to the new committee members,We are raising money to purchase items for the trailer like a generator,air conditioner and other items needed. It will not house the pets but the equipment needed for evacuation animals being transported. Dr.Whitlock asked who was organizing the event,Animal Control or someone else. Ms.Ramos replied that we have it filled with supplies and it is in the event of any disaster after the fact. When you go into the community there will be loose dogs because fences were blown down,or injured animals. Dr.House will be able to respond to these calls,because he is a city employee as an essential staff,when there is a disaster we are there we don't have a choice.He will be able to go out into the community with the trailer and assist the animals on site. Dr.Whitlock asked if she could sit down with someone to have it thoroughly explained; I am an the Medical Reserve Core which is under Corpus Christi and Nueces County Health Departments together they do something similar. Ms.Ramos asked to clanfy what it is called.Dr.Whitlock replied it is the Medical Reserve Care. Mr.Schroeder added that what we do with the pictures is affix them to the trailer and charge$50,00;$20.00 of the amount goes towards the printing. It is put on the side of the trailer and the other$30.00 goes to the necessities for the trailer.We haver for 100 on the trailer which would come up to$5k. Dr.Whitlock added that with the County and City Health department has a trailer as a command center for what they do which is air conditioned.Ms. Ramos asked if it is for the animals.Dr.Whitlock replied no. It is not designated just for people but for emergencies. Ms.Sterbach asked if the link for purchasing the pictures an the city website.M& Ramos replied not at this time, Mr.Schroeder added that he and M&Martinez talked about making a brochure to be set out front. Ms. Ramos replied that we could do that and we have one for the is and dog kennels. They are always taken out to our events and we can add another brochure for the Pet Taxi. Mr.Schroeder added that you could put on there what the funds are going for. Mr.Schroeder explained once we know we have the funds then the item is sent to the websile and is taken to the printer. The pictures are 20 x 20 standard sizes.Ms.Martinez added that the dog Sammy on this picture had cancer and went thru the and was euthanized this past Monday. Mr.Schroeder asked for any other items for the agenda. Ms.Beynon added that she would still like to see the numbers for enforcement activity.What violations are being issued month to month;Ms.Copeland stated that the oonvicfions go thru Municipal Court;but I am wanting to see violations are being written up month to month. Ms.Ramos replied that i thought you wanted convictions.Ms.Beynon replied yes she did but that is thru Municipal Court that we couldn't do that and said that she use to give the number of violations written and thal's what was decided. Ms.Ramos replied that you want to know how many; that is run from the Crystal reports which I don't know myself.Ms.Copeland Will be able to get that information for you. 8.
