HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Animal Care Advisory Committee - 09/20/2012MINUTES OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI ANIMAL CONTROL ADVISORY COMMITTEE Nueces County Public Health District Education Room, 2626 Holly Rd The Minutes for September 20, 2012 Members Present: Cheryl Martinez, Harold Bennett, Heather Tarnoski, Nina Sisley, Laina Schonefeld, and Dr. Barbara Whitlock Members Absent: Barbara Bevnon Citv Staff: Jesse Car eon, Mark Schauer, Buck Brice, Cdr. Green, Elov Ybar a, and Steven Blv Guests: Antra Ashley, Pat Otto, and Angela Powell 1. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Mr. Car eon at 12:30 p.m. 2. Discussion and possible Approval of Minutes from August 16 2012 Dr. Whitlock stated that Monica Martinez was present and should be added to the city staff. Dr. Whitlock also stated that Sec 2 first paragraph of the sentence remove that they are not receiving rabies vaccine. Animals are receiving paivo /distemper and Bordetella and later on receiving Rabies. Julie Taube stated that Sec. 6, the numbers for the clinic report should read 24 instead of 19. Sec. 8, last page, first paragraph should read operation of a shelter. Motion to approve, Cheryl Martinez seconded. 3. Discussion and possible Approval of Absences from August 16 2012 Dr. Sisley moved and was not receiving mail. Dr. Whitlock asked for a motion to approve Dr. Sisley`s absences for the month of July, August, and the Special Meeting. Cheryl Martinez made a motion to approve and Harold Bennett seconded the motion. Motion approved. 4. Discussion an nossible anuroval of Minutes from the snecial meeting on August 22 ° `. 2012 Dr. Whitlock summarized the change of Harold Bennett `s position from At Large to Animal Welfare Associate hnvolved in the Operation of a Shelter was moved, seconded, passed, and went to council. Discussion and possible recommendation to fill the open position on the Advisoiy Committee for Animal Control Advisory Board Committee and that was for Laina Schonefeld. Was sent to council and approved Cheryl Martinez moved to approve the minutes, there was a second, and all was in favor. 5. Discussion and possible Approval of absences from the special meeting on August 22 °d , 2012 Dr. Sisley was absent. Cheryl Martinez moved to excuse her absence. Motion was second and all were in favor. 6. Discussion of the Current Zoonosis Report Dr. Whitlock informed the committee that there were no positive animals in Nueces County for the last month. 7. Discussion of Current Shelter Report Mr. Car eon read the shelter numbers for August as follows: Picked up by Officers in the field, dog 179, cats 101, others 256; dropped off 251 dogs, 233 cats, 64 other. Total dogs is 430, cats 334, and others 320. Total of 1084. Relocate: dogs 8, cats 6, others 1 total of 15. Rescued: 9 dogs, 0 cats, 3 others total of 12. Adopted: dogs 50, cats 9, others 0 total of 59. Return to Owner: dogs 36, cats 1, others 0 total 37. Relocated; 2 dogs, 0 cats, 2 others total of 4. Paws and Claws Heartworm Program; 18 dogs, 0 cats, 0 others total of 18. Animal died in track; dogs 0, cats 0, others 1 total of 1. Animals died in kennel; dogs 2, cats 0, others 0 total of 2. Disposed Pick up; dogs 217, cats 277, other 300 total 794. Euthanized dogs 397, cats 293, others 307 total of 997. Relocated within facility: dogs 8, cats 6, other 1 total of 15. (Not including the 30 surgeries outsourced to Belcher Animal Hospital and 35 to The Cattery). Calls for seivice; dogs 1222, cats 227, others 555 total of 2004 average of 65. 9. Discussion, review and possible recommendation for immediate release of unaccompanied puppies and kittens under ten weeks of ate. A general discussion was held on the possible recommendation for immediate release of unaccompanied puppies and kittens under ten weeks. 10. Discussion, review and possible recommendation of Cite Animal Control pet registration A general discussion was held on the City Animal Control pet registrations. Motion to move registration to 6 months of age to get an animal altered instead of 4 months. Was seconded and not opposed. 11. Public Comments Mark Schauer stated that there will be talk with Solid Waste to pick up deceased animals. 12. Identify items to be placed on next agenda The committee wanted the following items on the agenda for the month of October 2012. Discussion, review and possible recommendation of City Animal Control pet registrations; Discussion, review and possible recommendation on owner surrender animals and discussion, review and possible recommendation on ordinance for impounded animals. 13. Adjournment Ms. Martinez made a motion to adjourn, Ms. Tarnoski 2 "" the motion, all in favor, motion passed 2:00 p.m.
