ANIMAL CONTROL ADVISORY MEETING

The Minutes for March 21, 2013
Members Present: Laina Schonefeld,Barbara Bevnon, Cheryl Martinez,Harold Bennett,and Dr.Barbara
Whitlock
Members Absent: Heather Tarnoski

Guests: Megan Tisdale and Robin Moore
1. Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order by Dr. Whitlock at 12:34 p.m.
2. Discussion and Possible approval of minutes from February 21,2013
Dr. Whitlock Avanted to add the absence of Dr. Nina Sisley. Change the verbiage from terminated to resided.
Cheryl Martinez moved to approve the minutes,Barbara Beynon 2"d the motion,all AN-ere in favor,and the motion
was passed.
3. Discussion and Possible approval of Absences from February 21,2013
A discussion was held on the absence of Dr.Nina Sisley. Cheryl Martinez moved to not excuse her absence,Harold
Bennett 2"d the motion,all were in favor,and the motion was passed. Cheryl Martinez moved to excuse the absence
of Harold Bennett,Laina Schonefeld 2"a the motion,all were in favor and the motion was passed. Heather
Tarnoski`s absence will be tabled.
4. Discussion of the Current Zoonosis Report
Dr. Whitlock informed the committee that Nueces County had no positive reports of rabies. A skunk was submitted
in Hidalgo County but it was destroyed and could not be tested.
5. Discussion of the Current Shelter Report
Please see attached form for the Current Shelter Report.
6. Discussion of the Current Clinic Report
Please see attached form for the Current Clinic Report.
7. Discussion,review,and possible recommendation for a Feral Cat Colony Ordinance
A general discussion was held about a Feral Cat Colony Ordinance. Items discussed were: Goal to reduce free
roaming cat population and to reduce euthanization at the shelter;Have a group in charge of Feral Cat Colony
Program: set basic rules; structure for how to do it;get a sponsor;number of cats: different numbers for
residentiaVindustrial/commercial;track area problem;Requirements such as rabies, spay/neuter,ear tipping,
microchip,testing,registration;how long does Animal Control hold a colony cat. Item was tabled until next
meeting.
8. Discussion,review,and possible recommendation for an improved Fee Structure
Steven BIN-informed the committee that management is still in the process of deciding whether or not to use Pet
Data. This item will be tabled until a decision is made on Pet Data.
9. Discussion,review,and possible recommendation for leaf traps
Dr. Whitlock tabled this discussion until the next meeting.
10. Discussion,review,and possible recommendation for Communitv at Large
A discussion was held for the position of Community at Large. 5 applications were received: Megan Winn,Brent
Koza, Anthony Mulheron,Janet Strawn,and Megan Tisdale. Cheryl Martinez commented that Megan Winn had
asked to be taken out as an applicant.Dr. Whitlock asked the committee to Note by a shoe of hands. Anthony
Mulheron 0,Brent Koza 1,Janet Strawn 1,Megan Tisdale 3.Megan Tisdale`s application will be sent to Council.
11. Public Comments
No public comments.
12. Identify items to be placed on next agenda
The committee wanted the following items added on the agenda for the month of April 2013: Discussion,review
and possible recommendation for a Feral Cat Colony,Discuss,review, and possible recommendation of PetData,
Discuss,review, and possible recommendation for leg traps;Discuss,review, and possible recommendation on
applications for Community at Large.
13. Adjournment
Cheryl Martinez moved to adjoum the meeting,Harold Bennett 2"d the motion. All were in favor and the motion
was passed. Meeting adjoumed at 1:58 p.m.
