HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Animal Care Advisory Committee - 07/17/2013 MINUTES OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI ANIMAL CONTROL ADVISORY MEETING Nueces County Public Health District Conference Room, 2626 Hollv The Minutes for Julv 17,2013 Members Present: Chervl Martinez,Harold Bennett,Dr.Barbara Whitlock, Janet Strawn,&Laina Schonefeld Members Absent: Barbara Beynon,Megan Winn Citv Staff: Buck Brice, Captain Russell Sherman&Heather Hedricks Guests: None 1. Call to Order: The meeting was call to order by Dr. Whitlock at 12:33. 2. Discussion and Possible approval of minutes from June 20,2013 Information was brought up that amended minutes need to be brought to the Glenda Grasz at the City Secretary Office. Amend that Janet Strawn was not absent from previous meeting because it was not an absentee. Full names should be used when stating a person's name, or with a proper title. Cheryl Martinez motions,Janet Strawn seconds, all approve, none oppose, and none abstain. 4. Discussion of the Current Zoonosis Report Three confirmed cases of rabies in our district, Cameron County and Nueces County two bats. 5. Discussion of the Current Shelter Report Please see attached form for the current shelter report 6. Discussion of the Current Clinic Report Please see attached form for the Current Clinic Report. 7. Discussion,review,and possible recommendation for a Feral Cat Colony Ordinance General Discussion was held on parts of the proposed feral cat ordinance. Items brought up while in discussion, were ftinding for fixing feral cats,man hours on releasing feral cats,and property owners rights against feral cats. Dr. Barbara Whitlock stated that she added under Sec. 1, Article 3 to the proposed Feral Cat Ordinance. Under, Sec.2 before the line caretaker must:,add,Ear-tipped and altered cats will be released within a half mile of the capture site.Harold Bennett motions, Cheryl Martinez seconds, all approve, none oppose, and none abstain. Laina Schonefeld left meeting at 1:43 p.m. Dr. Barbara Whitlock said she would get back on the Sec.3 Article 2 wording. 8. Discussion,review,and possible Recommendation fee structure and pet data No new information given remove from next agenda. 9. Discussion,review,and possible recommendation of leg traps Item was tabled until next meeting. 10. Discussion,review,and update on Rachel Ray challenge. Cheryl Martinez gave some information on the Rachel Ray Challenge. 49 shelters are competing,divided by number of animal intakes: Corpus Christi Animal Care Seivices are overall 9t",and 2""in our division. A community engagement is scheduled for Cole Park on Friday July 26, 2013 in partnership with Del Mar college who has forgone the cost of production,Fire Department has lent the use of a bucket truck. Demw Bales has donated 4,000 commercials on Time Warner and Grande communications. Sarah Acosta from Caller Times also did some information for the challenge,and Jason from chubbys also did a commercial. 11. Public Comments Dr. Barbara Whitlock brought up some information on the TBVME and some rules they are proposing. 12. Identify items to be placed on next agenda Discussion of action by TBVME to prohibit vaccinating on animal intake and discussion, review, and possible approval of immediate release of stray animals. 13.
