HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Animal Care Advisory Committee - 10/15/2015 MINUTES OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI ANIMAL CARE ADVISORY MEETING Nueces County Public Health District Conference Room,2626 Holly Minutes for October 15,2015 Members Present: Dr. Barbara Whitlock,Mark Phillips,Megan Tisdale,Harold Bennett Members Absent: Megan Winn, Cheryl Martinez, Samantha Person, City Staff: Ana Lisa Puente,Joseph Brice,Roxanne Trim, Commander John Houston Guests: 1. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Dr. Barbara Whitlock at 12:41 P.M. 2. Discussion and Approval of Minutes from August 20,2015 ACAS Meeting held on August 20,2015-Mark Phillips approves meeting minutes. Megan Tisdale seconds, all approve,none oppose. 3. Discussion and Approval of Absences from August 20,2015 Harold Bennett was absent for July 16,2015 due to medical reasons. Harold Bennett was absent for August 20, 2015 meeting due to work related issues. The committee will wait to vote on Megan Winn's absence next month since she is not present this month. Megan Tisdale moved to approve absences,Mark Philips seconds,approved with all in favor,none oppose. 4. Discussion of Current Texas Department of State Health Services Region 11 Zoonosis Report Dr.Whitlock states a huge jump in rabies report compared to 2014 and especially 2013. Total numbers jumped from 24 to 59 for this year,more than double;most of these due to 20 skunks in San Patricio County, 15 bats in Webb County,Bee County had 5 skunks,3 skunks in Live Oak, Refugio County had 1 skunk. Reports show a rabies strand in 1980's and 1990's which shows a big jump in report rabies. 5. Discussion of Parks and Wildlife Report Dr.Whitlock states 104 opossums were captured and 81 were released in August. One pet pig was captured. In September 88 opossums were captured and 86 were released. Bats are captured and not released. 6. Discussion of Current Shelter Report There was general discussion on Shelter Report for August. Discussion on why calls for service was down the month of August; there were 2,600 in August of last year, and 1,900 calls this August. Discussion on what is done when calls are received of animals are being sold or given away on side of road. Amount of citations given was also discussed. There was a general discussion on Shelter Report for September. Discussion on adoption events. 7. Discussion of Current and Previous Clinic Report General discussion on Clinic Report for the month of August and September. Over 200 surgeries were done in clinic. 8. Advisory walk through tour of new facility Tour is taken of new facility. 9. Discussion and possible recommendation of ordinance for dogs left in hot cars Commander Houston states there are no specific ordinances for dogs left in hot cars but there are ordnances in affect that deal with taking care of animals properly. Item will be left on agenda for next month to discuss with Captain White. 10. Discussion and recommendation to change by-laws regarding the calling of special meetings Dr.Whitlock discusses procedure to call a special meeting according to by-laws. Joseph Brice explains it is best to all agree to a special meeting as opposed to just having one person call a meeting.Item will remain on agenda for next month for further discussion when Cheryl Martinez is present. 11.
