HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Animal Care Advisory Committee - 11/19/2015 MINUTES OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI ANIMAL CARE ADVISORY MEETING Nueces County Public Health District Conference Room,2626 Holly Minutes for November 19,2015 Members Present: Dr. Barbara Whitlock,Mark Phillips,Megan Tisdale,Harold Bennett, Cheryl Martinez,Megan Winn Members Absent: Samantha Person City Staff: Ana Lisa Puente,Roxanne Trim, Captain Christopher White Guests: 1. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Dr. Barbara Whitlock at 12:32 P.M. 2. Discussion and Approval of Minutes from November 19,2015 ACAS Meeting held on October 15,2015-Mark Phillips approves meeting minutes. Megan Tisdale seconds, all approve,none oppose. 3. Discussion and Approval of Absences from November 19,2015 Cheryl Martinez was absent for October 15, 2015 due to work reasons. Megan Winn was absent for October 15, 2015 meeting due to work reasons. Samantha Person was absent for October 15, 2015 for reasons unknown. Megan Tisdale moved to approve absences, Mark Phillips seconds, approved with all in favor, none oppose. 4. Discussion of Current Texas Department of State Health Services Region 11 Zoonosis Report Dr.Whitlock states Zoonosis Report is exact same report received last month. Captain White discussed rabies reports news has been giving public. There has not been a rabies case reported in City. 5. Discussion of Parks and Wildlife Report Dr.Whitlock states 95 opossums were captured and 95 were released in October. 6. Discussion of Current Shelter Report There was general discussion on Shelter Report for October. Dr. Whitlock reports a 52% drop in euthanasia. Discussion on intakes was discussed and kennel door installation impact was discussed. Discussion on animal stray drop offs and having to turn citizens away due to limited space. 7. Discussion of Current and Previous Clinic Report General discussion on Clinic Report for the month of October. 8. Discussion and possible recommendation of ordinance for dogs left in hot cars Dr. Whitlock states how Commander Houston stated in last minute that there are no specific ordinances for dogs left in hot cars but there are ordnances in affect that deal with taking care of animals properly. Captain White states this is the first he has heard of this discussion,he will look into it. Cheryl discusses the effect dogs have when a dog is left in a hot car. It is agreed that they would discuss this with Joseph Brice, and Cheryl would look into San Antonio ordinances on this matter. Item will be tabled for a future meeting. 9. Discussion and update on new tethering ordinance and its impact Dr. Whitlock asks Cheryl if item can be dropped due to Joseph Brices' response to matters from last meeting. Cheryl agrees it can be removed from agenda. 10. Public Comment No public comments. 12. Identify items to be placed on next agenda Discussion on not having a meeting in December. Cheryl Martinez moves to approve, Mark Phillips seconds. All in favor,none oppose. Items 1-7 Hot Cars Update on new tethering ordinance and how it has made an impact 12. Adjournment Adjourned 1:16 p.m. Cheryl Martinez moved to adjourn, Harold Bennett seconds and adjournment passed unanimously.
