HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Animal Care Advisory Committee - 04/21/2016 MINUTES OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI ANIMAL CARE ADVISORY MEETING Conference Room,2626 Holly Minutes for April 21,2016 Members Present: Dr. Barbara Whitlock,Mark Phillips, Cheryl Martinez, Samantha Person,Megan Tisdale Members Absent: Megan Winn, Captain Christopher White City Staff: Ana Lisa Puente,Jo Ann Martinez,Edward Cruz,Joseph Brice Guests: 1. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Dr. Barbara Whitlock at 12:30 P.M. 2. Discussion and Approval of Minutes from March 17,2016. Cheryl Martinez approves meeting minutes with no amendments. Samantha Pearson seconds, all approve,none oppose. 3. Discussion and Approval of Absences from March 17,2016 Megan Tisdale was absent due to illness. Discussion of Harold Bennett's absences, Dr. Whitlock stated Mr. Bennett has resigned and name has been removed for committee list. Mark Phillips approves, Cheryl Martinez seconds. 4. Discussion of Current Texas Department of State Health Services Region 11 Zoonosis Report Dr.Whitlock states there has been a big drop in the number of rabies cases according to report. 5. Discussion of Parks and Wildlife Report General discussion on bats,raccoons, and opossums caught.. 6. Discussion of Current Shelter Report and Clinic Report General discussion on Shelter Report for March.Cheryl Martinez questions the amount of cats being euthanized. Edward Cruz explains it is due to age,illness, or injury. 7. Discussion of the verification of release through PIO rcgarding the tethering ordinance Due to Captain White's absence this discussion was tabled for next month. 8. Discussion of Responsible Pet Ownership class"Do22ic Defensive Driving" Cheryl Martinez presents a Power Point presentation on her purposed Doggie Defensive Driving class. She states Captain White will be presenting the presentation to Chief Markle unless the Advisory Board Committee opposes. Chief will decide if he accepts presentation and will then pass it on to the Judges who will decide if they will accept it. If accepted it will be presented as an option to citizens who receive a citation. A motion to approve is given and all present committee members approve. 9. Discussion on ideas of more public awareness for Animal Care Services Cheryl Martinez states someone asked her to add this to agenda. Their idea was to add information regarding spay/neutering in the utility bill. It is discussed that it would cost Animal Care Services $5000 to do this every year.Animal Care Services would not be able to do this due to funding. 10. Discussion on collaboration ideas with 5010 organizations Due to Captain White's absence this discussion was tabled for next month. 11. Public Comments There were no public comments 12. Identify items to be placed on next agenda Items 1-6 Verification of release through PIO regarding tethering ordinance Discussion on collaboration ideas with 5016 organizations 13. Adjournment Adjourn 12:51 p.m. Cheryl Martinez moved to adjourn, Mark Phillips seconds and adjournment passed unanimously.
