HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Animal Care Advisory Committee - 06/16/2016 MINUTES OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI ANIMAL CARE ADVISORY MEETING Conference Room,2626 Holly Minutes for June 16,2016 Members Present: Cheryl Martinez,Mark Phillips, Samantha Person,Megan Tisdale,Michelle Sanders Members Absent: Megan Winn,Dr. Sara Andux City Staff: Captain Christopher White,Ana Lisa Puente,Jackie Torres,Joseph Brice Guests: 1. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Cheryl Martinez at 12:30 P.M. 2. Discussion and Approval of Minutes from April 21,2016. Megan Tisdale approves meeting minutes with no amendments. Samantha Person seconds, all approve,none oppose. 3. Discussion and Approval of Absences from April 21,2016 Megan Winn was absent, due to not being present,reason is unknown. 4. Discussion of Current Texas Department of State Health Services Region 11 Zoonosis Report General discussion of quarterly report. 5. Discussion of Parks and Wildlife Report Megan Tisdale request columns be added to report indicating if animal was released, adopted, or euthanized. 6. Discussion of Current Shelter Report and Clinic Report General discussion on Shelter Report for April and May. Cheryl Martinez questions the amount of cats being euthanized. Captain White explains it is due to illness, or injury. Samantha Person questions whether animals being euthanized are treatable or not treatable, and Captain White explains that if Animal Care Services had a full clinic they would be able to treat more animals,but currently there is no means to do that. Megan Tisdale, and Cheryl Martinez request the number of fosters be added back to report. Cheryl Martinez also request surgeries performed by PAAC be added to report since they are still surgeries done for Animal Care Services. 7. Discussion of the verification of release through PIO rcgarding the tethering ordinance Captain White states release was done back in February/March. No citations have been issued since for tethering. Captain White explains how citations are handled. 8. Discussion on collaboration ideas with 5010 organizations Cheryl Martinez states that she feels a collaboration should be done between everyone,fairness across the board. Captain White states that it is not an Animal Care issue. 9. Discuss and recommend ordinance or policy for Solid Waste to scan deceased animals Cheryl Martinez states that a microchiped animal was recently hit by a car, owner wanted animal's body, but animal was picked up by Solid Waste. If animal could be scanned before being picked up it would allow owners to know about their deceased pet. Captain White states it is a Solid Waste issue. 10. Vote for new chair and vice chair Megan Tisdale nominates Cheryl Martinez for chair, Mark Phillips seconds, none oppose. Cheryl Martinez nominates Samantha Person for vice chair,Mark Philips seconds,none oppose. 11. Public Comments Stacy Palacios asks about tethering citations. Barbra Brinkman asks about yard work done at Animal Care. 12. Identify items to be placed on next agenda Items 1-6 Discussion regarding dogs in hot cars Discussion on TNR 13. Adjournment Adjourn 12:09 p.m. Samantha Person moved to adjourn, Mark Phillips seconds, adjournment passed unanimously.
