HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Animal Care Advisory Committee - 09/18/2019MINUTES OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI ANIMAL CARE ADVISORY MEETING Conference Room, 2626 Holly Minutes from September 18'h, 2019 Members Present: Linda Gibeaut, Margaret Obregon, Connie Bowen, Jarvis Amaya, Juliana Carlisle, Deborah Shores Members Absent: Sharon Ray City Staff: Mike Gillis, Jackie Torres, Michelle Jorgensen Public Present: None L Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Mrs. Margaret Obregon at 12:31 p.m. IL Roll Call of Members Roll was called, and a quorum was confirmed. III. Discussion and Approval of Minutes from July 17°h, 2019 Ms. Connie Bowen motioned to approve the minutes. Margaret Obregon seconded the motion which passed unanimously. There was no Advisory Committee Meeting in August. IV. Discussion and Approval of Absences from July, 171h, 2019 Linda Gibeaut and Connie Bowen. There was no Advisory Committee Meeting in August. V. Department Presentation and Discussion Region 11 Zoonosis Report — There were 2 confirmed rabies cases with raccoons in Travis county last month. No questions were raised regarding the report. Current Shelter Report and Clinic Report — Mr. Gillis referred to August 2019 Cat RTO number being at 35 and should be rescue instead due to TNR surgeries. The update has been made in chameleon now that the individual bringing them in is a 5013C. The current live release is 86.991/6 for dogs and cats and hopes to be at 90% end of year 2019. Mr. Gillis also explained that the number of citations/ NOV's will be down for food/water/shelter due to those cases being handled as a cruelty investigation. Program Manager Update — Mr. Gillis announced that we were approved to participate in the Empty the Shelter program under Bissel/Pet co. on October 12'h, 2019. We will have adoptions for $10 and provide free microchips to the public during the event. The clinic is working hard to get as many cat and dogs spay/neutered but are also working investigations that are limiting our resources. The cruelty department also working the investigations are assisting with the work load. Mr. Gillis advised that two new fulltime positions are now available one Live Release and one Kennel Tech. The Pawed Forces Project upcoming adoption event will offer resources to Vets by the VA and reduced adoption fee $22. Our play yard is now completed for controlled play groups. Employees and volunteers will be trained on how to conduct play groups. The new generator installation is in progress and will be for the entire campus. The nomination was seconded and passed unanimously VIII. Public Comments None IX. Identify items to be placed on neat agenda For old business keep Tethering ordinance and discussion of ordinance "allowing pet stores to only sell cats/kittens or dogs/puppies pulled from a or municipal shelter or qualified 501 c3 rescue. (no animals from private breeders)." X. Adiournment There was a motion to adjourn by Ms. Linda Gibeaut at 1:19pm. All approved and meeting was adjourned. Ronald D.
