CALL TO ORDER - The regular meeting of the Arts and Cultural Commission was called to order at
4:07 pm by Chair, Heidi Hovda.
II. ROLL CALL - The recording secretary called roll, announced quorum.
Ill. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
a. Special called meeting August 9, 2011
i, Joye made a motion to approve the minutes. Joe S. seconded. Minutes were approved.
IV. PUBLIC COMMENT - None
V. OLD BUSINESS (DISCUSSION 1 POSSIBLE ACTION)
i. Joye made a motion to table old business since time was limited. Joe S. seconded. Motion
passed.
VI. NEW BUSINESS (DISCUSSION / POSSIBLE ACTION)
1. Donation of Art - Downtown Mural (K Space) - change in design
1. Sharon Sedwick presented a new design proposal for the mural to be placed
downtown at the balustrade for K Space's Dia de los Muertos event. K Space will
try to have lights redone to have them illuminating the artwork.
2. Local artists include Ricardo Ruiz, Jimmy Pena, Gerald Lopez, and David Philips.
3. Work is expected to be completed by October 28` K Space will be responsible for
maintaining the artwork. Proposal will be introduced to City Council on September
20 and voted on September 27` Artists will have 30 days to complete the work.
4. Joe Schenk moved to accept modifications to K Space mural as presented. Joye
seconded. Motion passed unopposed.
ii. Review of applications for vacant positions on ACC
1. Applicants needed to fill Architecture, Youth /Education, and Higher Education
positions. The Commission will look at contacts to see who will fit the positions.
Joye made a motion to table the item. Joe S. seconded. Discussion was tabled.
iii. Election of Officers
1. Joe S. nominated Heidi as chair. Joye seconded. Motion passed. Heidi was
appointed as Chair.
2. Joe S. nominated Joye as Vice Chair. Joe H. seconded. Motion passed. Joye was
appointed as Vice Chair.
VII. IDENTIFY ITEMS TO BE PLACED ON NEXT AGENDA
a. Review of meetings discussion
1. Cultural District Designation
ii. Arts and Cultural Alliance
VIII. ADJOURN
a. Joe S. made a motion to adjourn. Joye seconded. Motion passed. Heidi Hovda, Chair, adjourned
meeting at 4:36 pm.
