HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Arts And Cultural Commission - 02/12/2013ARTS & CULTURAL COMMISSION Regular Meeting, February 12, 2013, 4:00 p.m. Basement Training Room, City Hall, 1201 Leopard St., Corpus Christi, Texas CALL TO ORDER - The regular meeting of the Arts and Cultural Commission was called to order at 4:06 p.m. by Heidi Hovda. II. ROLL CALL - The recording secretary called roll, announced quorum. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES a) Special Called Meeting January 15, 2013 Brad Kisner made a motion to approve the minutes. Joe Schenk seconded. Minutes were approved. IV. PUBLIC COMMENT — None V. OLD BUSINESS (DISCUSSION / POSSIBLE ACTION) Public Art Updates Reba George gave an update on the Gron sculpture installation at the Police Department and announced that there should be some percent for art money available from the 2008 Bond. The funding is still being determined based on construction costs but there have been four proposed projects that will hopefully be able to be funded. Tess Allan gave an update on the Mel Chin sculpture repair, we are currently waiting for Mr. Chin to respond with a cost estimate to replace the missing foot. Arts Grants Program 2013 The commissioners scores for the second round of Grant applications were distributed and reviewed. Brad Kisner Motioned to accept a proposal to distribute the remaining grant funds based on the percent of money asked for in relation to the amount of funds remaining. After further discussion Brad withdrew his original motion and made an amended Motion to accept the following proposal for distribution of funds: Corpus Christi Ballet $5,022 Corpus Christi Concert Ballet $2,761 K Space Contemporary $6,022 The Cathedral Concert Series 2013 $5,522 Stephen Rybak Seconded the motion. Motion passed. Membership Recruiting Heidi Hovda began discussion on membership recruiting and recommended Robert Reed as a potential candidate to fill the Performing Arts vacancy in September. Heidi will ask Mr. Reed to apply with the City and if any other commissioner knows of a potential candidate they should also encourage them to apply as well. Division of Public Art for Inventory by Commissioners Packets including a list of public art by location and condition report forms were distributed. Commissioners selected the art they would take physical inventory of and it was determined by general consensus that if possible they would return the completed forms by the March 12 meeting but no later than the April 9 th meeting. VI. NEW BUSINESS (DISCUSSION / POSSIBLE ACTION) Recognition of the 2013 Arts Grants Recipients Reba George announced that at the City Council meeting on February 26 the City will provide one oversized check that shows the total of all the grants funded. Brad Kisner will be the Arts and Cultural Commission representative to present the check to the representatives of each grant organization but all the commissioners are encouraged to attend the meeting if possible. Reception for Jack Gron Installation To be discussed at the March 12 meeting. ACC Presentation to City Council in April City Staff will send an electronic copy of the last PowerPoint presentation made to City Council. VII.
