OLD BUSINESS Public Art Projects, Administration and Conservation Reba George gave a brief update on the Orion's Belt restoration. It was set to begin January 13th but has been put on hold due to the weather. As soon as weather permits Gourley Construction will begin the restoration. A press release has gone out and the restoration project appeared in the Caller Times. Tess Allan reported that she was only able to find 2 of the 11 medallions representing the secondary stars which were originally installed. Joe Schenk suggested dialoguing with the artist to see if we could get the original designs for all the markers for our records and in case there ever comes a time when the Commission would like to reinstall the markers. Reba George will contact someone who worked with the original commissioning as well. Arts Grant Commissioners reviewed the grant guidelines and the scoring mechanism and proposed several changes. City Staff will make revisions and bring back to the Commission for a second review. It was noted that several of the unfunded applicants came in to review their scores and found there were little to no notes on the score sheets. In the future Commissioners will make notations for any score below `passing'. Cultural District Reba George shared that at this time City Staff is unable to pursue the Cultural District project. Brad Kisner suggested having Jim Bob McMillan from the Texas Commission on the Arts come and speak at the next Arts Forum. Permanent Art Trust Fund Reba George gave an update on the approval process for the Commissioners suggested changes to the Arts Ordinance. VI. NEW BUSINESS K Space Murals Tess Allan reported that Michelle Smythe from K Space Contemporary has asked that the two downtown murals: Dia de los Muertos, and the Swimmers, be adopted as part of the City's Permanent Art Collection. After review of the original agreements it appears that both murals are already part of the permanent collection. Item was tabled until the February meeting. 1 VII.
