I. CALL TO ORDER-The regular meeting of the Arts and Cultural Commission was called to order at 4:03 p.m. by Brad Kisner. II. ROLL CALL-The recording secretary called roll, announced quorum. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES - Regular Meeting, February 10, 2015 — Several spelling corrections including the following names: James Surls, Joe Schenk, Stephen Rybak, Dia de los Muertos, and Jim Bob McMillan were noted then Joe Schenk moved to approve the minutes as corrected. Sean Mintz seconded. Minutes were unanimously approved. IV. PUBLIC COMMENT — Ms. Anne Stewart addressed the Commissioners regarding potential safety concerns at Heritage Park. V. OLD BUSINESS Public Art Projects, Administration and Conservation Reba George gave a brief update for several ongoing projects. The CVB has contracted with Audio Innovations to add an audio element to the Selena Memorial. They will be responsible for maintaining the audio for two years. The lighting at both the Selena Memorial and Orion's Belt is being replaced. And, contact was made with James Surls about his piece Six or Seven Flowers but there has been no response yet. Joe Schenk will also try to make contact with Mr. Surls. Collier Pool City Staff distributed the architectural renderings of the pool submitted by Turner, Ramirez &Associates, Inc. Dianna presented the Commissioners with several examples of exceptional tile muralists. City Staff presented several examples of functional art possibilities. Dianna moved that City Staff share the functional art examples with the architect to be considered for the Collier Pool art installation. Stephen Rybak seconded. Motion was unanimously approved. 2015 Arts Forum Brad Kisner began the discussion. Joe stated that the Art Museum had an exhibit conflict with the September 10th date but that September 3rd is available. By general consensus it was agreed that the new Arts Forum Date will be September 3rd. City Staff agreed to contact Jim Bob McMillan to request that he or another TCA representative speak to the Forum attendees about TCA grant opportunities and to meet with those interested in a Cultural District Designation in a workshop prior to the Arts Forum. City Staff will submit a request for the Mayor's attendance at the Forum. Dianna presented the Commissioners with several work samples of local artists for the Star Award artist. By general consensus the Commissioners selected artist, Sheila Gritte, and asked Dianna to please contact Ms. Gritte regarding the award. Permanent Art Trust Fund Changes Reba George reported that the proposed changes were approved by the City Council and are now official. 1 VI. NEW BUSINESS James Surls Six or Seven Flowers Item tabled until more is known about the new bridge construction project. VII. IDENTIFY ITEMS TO BE PLACED ON THE NEXT AGENDA Arts Forum Collier Pool Arts Grant Art Publication Geocaching VIII. ADJOURN Sean Mintz moved to adjourn. Cathy Harrison seconded. Motion passed.
