I. CALL TO ORDER-The regular meeting of the Arts and Cultural Commission was called to order at 4:03 p.m. by Brad Kisner. II. ROLL CALL -The recording secretary called roll and announced quorum. Laura Petican was introduced and welcomed to the Commission. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES — Regular Meeting, January 12, 2016 — Cathy Harrison moved to approve the minutes as submitted. Carla Gardiner seconded. Minutes were unanimously approved. 4:07 Dianna Sherman entered the meeting IV. PUBLIC COMMENT— None V. OLD BUSINESS Public Art Projects, Administration and Conservation City Staff gave a brief update on the following projects: • Tai Pomara has completed the conservation work on Six and Seven Flowers and has submitted a maintenance plan for the sculpture. Tai enjoyed the conservation work and has asked to be included in future Requests for Proposals for bronze conservation. • Staff is currently looking for qualified conservationists to clean all of the bronze in the collection; Laura Petican knows of a group and will send their information. Public Art Book The Commissioners reviewed the final draft of the Public Art Book submitted by Snyder&Associates and requested a few changes: Photoshop the shadow line across the dolphin on Wind Dancer; Add Laura Petican and Sarah Coles to the list of Commissioners; change the date to 2016; and include a new photo of Six and Seven Flowers now that the restoration is complete. Staff will request Snyder&Associates to make the recommended changes. The remaining discussion centered around printing and distribution of the book. City Staff will provide a distribution plan to discuss at the March meeting. Public Art Inventory Several of the Commissioners submitted Condition Reports for the art they inspected and led discussion regarding the condition of the art and recommendations for future action. 4:37 Paul Duke entered the meeting Some of the pieces highlighted were Bromeliad which is in very poor condition and will be removed from the collection, the rusted speakers at the Selena Memorial, the untitled art at Waldron Park was not found, Open Book is covered in foam stickers; The Flame needs to be put on a pedestal in order to remove the ugly white pvc fence around it, and the single Sea(S)Well piece at the Garcia library may need to be relocated. 1 It was also noted that each of the City Departments that house Public Art are responsible for the general maintenance of the art, i.e. dusting, light cleaning, etc. Those departments may not be aware of their responsibilities and will need to be notified. VI. NEW BUSINESS Arts Forum Brad led discussion on the 2016 Arts Forum. The date will be Thursday, September 8th, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Joe Schenk has agreed to allow the use of the Singer Gallery again and Brad will contact him to confirm that there will be no charge. Carla is working on something at her work to help resource non- profits and it was suggested as a possible focus for the Forum. VII.
