MEMBERS MEMBERS STAFF PRESENT ABSENT Chuck Anastos Dennis Kemmerer George Balli Ronnie Sepulveda Linda Avila Sheila Rogers Leticia Mondragon Danny O'Dowdy Deborah Fullerton Colin Sykes Elizabeth Reese Diana Hankins Ricardo Sanchez Anne Seddelmeyer Tom Schmid CALL TO ORDER — The November 8, 2001 Regular Meeting of the Arts and Cultural Commission was called to order at 4:35 p.m. by Chair Anastos. II. ROLL CALL—The Recording Secretary called roll and announced quorum was present. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES— Corrections: Ms. Avila moved to accept as written the minutes of the Regular Meeting of September 13. Mr. Sykes seconded the motion. The motion carried. IV. HEARING FROM THE PUBLIC —None V. Discussion Items and POSSIBLE ACTION - 1. Robert Perless Proposal for Signage of Orion's Belt Mr. Kemmerer reported Mr. Perless' request for the installation of two stainless steel plates demarking the title of the piece, instead of the usual bronze that the City installs. The cost of$1,300 would be absorbed by the Permanent Art Trust Fund. Ms. Avila moved to decline Mr. Perless' request for two stainless steel plaques. Mr. Kemmerer seconded the motion. The motion carried. VI. COMMITTEE REPORT— A. Projects Committee Ms. Avila reported on the proposed Festival of the Arts. The earliest date for the event would be Fall 2002 or Spring 2003. B. Projects Committee Mr. Kemmerer reported that he received a phone call from Jeffery Sosa at TXDOT. who requested information on how art was selected, relative to surface decoration applied into concrete. Mr. Kemmerer reported on Letters of Interest deadlines: November 16'h for the Arena and November 25`h for the Seawall. Mr. Sepulveda summarized that staff and the Committee will put together a list of names of artists from the letters received, and prepare a formal RFP letter to be mailed SCANNED 1111110 41010 before Thanksgiving, with a January 2, 2002 deadline for submittal of RFPs. A Special Called Project Committee will be held on November 14'". Mr. Sepulveda reported that the Perless "ground breaking ceremony" has "been and gone." The foundation is currently being installed. The piece will be installed December 3rd and 4th. VII. STAFF REPORT— Mr. Sepulveda reported that Robert Perless wants to install stainless steel stars throughout the City, corresponding to the star in the celestial pattern of Orion. There would be one star in Corpus Christi Bay. The Committee discussed holding a press conference on December 4th, when the installation is completed and before Mr. Perless returns home. Mr. Sepulveda reported that Patrick Rice had started work on the Coppini sculpture. Mr. O'Dowdy discussed the restoration process. VIII. CURRENT CONCERNS— Ms. Avila reported that she had received a phone call from Leadership Corpus Christi concerning their upcoming Quality of Life session. They requested a person to discuss "what the Arts and Cultural Commission does." IX. ADJOURNMENT— Ms. Avila moved to adjourn the November 8th Regular Meeting of the Arts and Cultural Commission. Mr. Kemmerer seconded the motion. The motion carried. Chair Anastos adjourned the meeting at 5:35 p.m. Ronald Sepulveda, Manager Multicultural Services Park& Recreation Department
