CALL TO ORDER—The special called meeting of the Arts and Cultural Commission was called to order at 12:15 p.m. p.m. by Acting Chair, Mando Camino. II. ROLL CALL—The Recording Secretary called roll, announced there was a quorum. III.DISCUSSION ITEMS AND POSSIBLE ACTION - Discussion and vote to approve the selected Artist for the Baseball Stadium and recommend the artist to City Council. Discussion pointed out size of statue is to be 18.5 feet tall. Deborah Fullerton made a motion, 2nd by Linda Avila, to accept decision of Peer Panel selection of Seth Venable as Whataburger Stadium artist. All ayes, no nays, motion passed IV. COMMITTEE REPORT— no reports V. STAFF REPORT— Dr. Valadez discussed the "Turtles" sculpture donation from Kent Ullberg for a park on Padre Island. It may become a sculpture garden park. This project will be presented at the next commission meeting. VI. CURRENT CONCERNS — Deborah Fullerton brought up the Mark di Suvero sculpture that has been on long term loan. Michael Manjarris of the Mariposa Foundation was recently contacted by the artist, who would like the City to purchase his piece. If the City doesn't buy it soon the artist will remove it. The Mariposa Foundation has some money but would the Arts and Cultural Commission have $50,000 to give towards the purchase. The Art Museum Director will also contribute towards the purchase. The purchase price is $800,000. A.C.C. requested Permanent Art fund balance be emailed to commissioners. VII.
