. CALL TO ORDER—The special called meeting of the Arts and Cultural Commission was called to
order at 4:40 p.m. by Chair, Chuck Anastos.
I. ROLL CALL—The Recording Secretary called roll, announced there was a quorum.
II. HEAR FROM PUBLIC — none
III. DISCUSSION ITEM —
This special called meeting will only address the Mel Chin Arena Art Project. Sally Gavlik spoke
with Mr. Chin regarding problems associated with placement of his art work and he was very
gracious about understanding that the artwork must be located in certain geographic areas due to
the fact that the funds used dictate the placement of the art.
It was suggested that the A.C.C. might amend the contract, placing the artwork where indicated
and asking Mr. Chin to return the funds he has received if he is not in agreement with the
placement. Mr. Chin's 5 pieces represent an oil rig hat, an Irish skirted figure, a Carancahua
Indian,
He is concerned about the placement because he feels these figures are representative of the
development of Corpus Christi, and wanted the placement to be random.
There is no stipulation in the Chin contract regarding the site location of the pieces.
4:43 Judith Prewitt arrived
4:46 Lynda Jones arrived
Lynda Jones made a motion to have Mr. Chin provide his artwork to be placed in the locations
specified by the Arena project. Deanne Gould-Lancaster seconded.
IV. ACTION ITEM —
V. CURRENT CONCERNS-
