CALL TO ORDER—The meeting of the Arts and Cultural Commission was called to order at 4:35 p.m.
by Chair, Armando Camina.
I. ROLL CALL —The Recording Secretary called roll, announced quorum.
II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES — February 9 , 2006
Motion by Anne Stewart, 2nd by Elia Guttierez, to approve minutes as changed. Minutes as
changed were approved.
III. HEARING FROM PUBLIC— Intl. Conf. for Youth and Education presentation moved to end of
meeting due to possible time constraints as an Open Meetings Training movie is scheduled for
5:30 p.m.
IV. DISCUSSION ITEMS AND POSSIBLE ACTION:
• Discussion and action on recommending relocation of Jimenez Southwest Pieta in Watergarden
When moving the piece and relocating, ADA issues need to be considered; base will probably
need to be raised. Motion by Jim Rennier, seconded by Ed Grove to relocate Southwest Pieta to
Area near Salina auditorium. Motion passed unanimously.
• Discussion and action on Corpus Christi Ballet's Subgrant Award. Accepted unanimously.
• Discussion and action on Urban Vision: Enhancement to La Retama Park; tabled.
• Discussion and action on using Permanent Art Trust Funds to supplement amount available from
Whataburger Stadium Art Project for Proposed Art at the Stadium
• Discussion and action on recommendations for new Arts and Cultural Commissioners
• Discussion and action on determining late arrivals to Commission meetings being considered an
absence —tabled.
V. COMMITTEE REPORTS -
PERFORMING ARTS — DeAnn Gould-Lancaster—The next PAC meeting will be held April 19 at
Heritage Park, to start planning the 2007 FOA. A thank you luncheon was held and new ideas
were shared. If you have ideas, please email Deanne at deannlgouldgrandecom.net.
VISUAL ARTS — Lynda Jones — North West Library Peer Panel meets 1st week in June.
Joe Pena introduced as new staff person. He will be the liaison for the Visual Arts Sub
Committee.
CULTURAL ENRICHMENT— Judith Prewitt- Meeting was held with CCBallet and issues
resolved. C.E.M. will be reviewing grant applications for appropriate paperwork.
STAFF REPORT— Dr. Valadez has requested an additional $10,000 of Hot Tax monies for the
Arts and Cultural Commission.
CURRENT CONCERNS - The Chair spoke to the Commission about the need for every
Commissioner to attend their Sub-Committee meetings. Each Committee has a lot of work to do
and it is very important that more people are at the meetings to share the work load.
Short film clips presented on International Conference for Youth and Education, featuring Cultural
Events, taking place at TAMU University from May 30th—June 2, 2006.
ADJOURNMENT -As there was no further business, DeAnn Gould-Lancaster made a motion
to adjourn the meeting, Frank Trimble 2"d the motion. The meeting was adjourned at 5:44
p.m.
