ROLL CALL -The Recording Secretary called roll, announced quorum. II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES- May 18, 2006 Motion by Frank Trimble , 2nd by Elia Guttierez approve minutes as changed. Minutes as changed were approved. III. HEARING FROM PUBLIC - None IV. DISCUSSION ITEMS AND POSSIBLE ACTION: • Discussion and action on Urban Vision: Enhancement to La Retama Park—A poll of committee members indicated the project was worthy of some type of support and it would be used by the community. It was also determined that many thought the park project will not bring in tourists and that it won't be used by that many people. Question: How many people would use it? "Wouldn't want the project to conflict with Cole Park. Anne Stewart moved and DeAnne Gould-Lancaster 2"d, to send a letter of thanks to Norma Urban for the presentation and to request the following: What's been done; what else is proposed and what does Ms. Urban want from Arts and Cultural Commission; a timeline of the project; a copy of the Power Point; and what other groups are supporting the project. Motion passed unanimously. Decision about what to do was tabled to the next meeting. • Discussion and action on determining late arrivals to Commission meetings being considered an absence - Some Bylaws indicate that if you miss 1/2 of the items on the agenda, then you are considered late. An Ad Hoc committee will be formed to pursue this issue. • Artist for Northwest Library-The Peer Panel met at Heritage Park to consider two proposals. One from Aloe Tile and the other from Sheila Rogers. The Peer Panel decided it needed more input on the designs, so Joe Pena is formulating an email to be sure the Peer Panel concerns are met. Then the artists can resubmit a design. There is a tentative meeting scheduled for July. low *ow • Ad Hoc Committees — Ad Hoc Committee #1, composed of Jim Rennier, Lisa Godwin and Frank Trimble was formed to discuss and update the Bylaws. Joe Pena will be the department liaison. • Ad Hock Committee #2 was formed to contact City Council members. Mando Camina and Jessica Burnett will try to contact Council members once a month. A Public Art Monograph, published by Americans for the Arts was ordered and distributed to Council members. This will be done on a regular basis to educate council members on various areas of the Arts. Lynda Jones suggested that each sub committee email their progress. • COMMITTEE REPORTS - PERFORMING ARTS — the LOM's for 2007 are ready and will be sent out in the next few weeks. They are to be returned by July 14. No meeting in June; next meeting will be in July. VISUAL ARTS — discussed the upcoming Peer Panel meeting for the Northwest library. Still trying to move the Jimenez piece. $19,000 left from Whataburger. NW Library Peer Panel meets at Heritage Park on July 7, at 3:15 p.m. to review remaining artists. CULTURAL ENRICHMENT —A review of the paperwork required for the 2007 subgrant applications was completed. 2 contingency applications were received and will be reviewed at the next C.E.C. meeting. The Committee is looking at the music content of the Cathedral Concert Series. STAFF REPORT Dr. Valadez attended the Americans for the Arts Conference. He discovered that Corpus Christi is in the forefront nationwide with our arts accomplishments. Dr. Valadez will be a presenter at next year's conference. He has requested more money for the Arts and Cultural Commission for the upcoming new fiscal year. CURRENT CONCERNS — An additional $10,000 was requested for HOT funding. Mr. Camina requested a list of the Subgrant organizations. Ed Grove has information on Incubating the Arts, if anyone wants to study it more in depth.
