CALL TO ORDER -The regular meeting of the Municipal Arts Commission was held on October 14, 1993 in the Committee Room, 1st floor of City Hall. Frank Weathered called the meeting to order at 4:35 p.m. II. ROLL CALL - The roll was called after a quorum was present at 4:35 p.m. III. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES - Newlyn Anderson motioned to approve the minutes of September 9th, 1993 with the following correction: Barbara Silverman and Jane Goode were in attendance at the meeting and not absent as recorded. IV. DISCUSSION ITEMS: A. REQUEST FROM BALLET FOLKLORICO NACIONALE REGARDING RESCHEDULING OF THE 1993 WINTER CONCERT APPROVED FOR THE 1993 SUBGRANT FUNDING CYCLE. Mr. Ricardo Villa of the Ballet Folklorico Nacional, requested that the Municipal Arts Commission approve rescheduling of the Winter Concert. He reported that due to conflicting schedules of many arts programs at the Bayfront Auditorium during the month of December, he must schedule the December 6th, 1993 concert, partially funded by the 1993 funding cycle, to January 22, 1994. The same situation will exist in January 1995 because funds for that project have been approved. However, in the subgrant cycle grant applications from the Ballet Folklorico Nacionale can be adjusted to reflect new schedules within the correct fiscal year. Joseph Wilson motioned to approve the request, Linda Jones seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous. B. AMENDMENT TO THE BYLAWS OF THE MUNICIPAL ARTS COMMISSION DELETING THE OFFICE OF SECRETARY AND ADDING THE OFFICE OF HISTORIAN. Linda Jones motioned to amend the bylaws of the Municipal Arts Commission deleting the office of secretary and adding the office of historian. Nelwyn Anderson, seconded SCANNED and the motion passed unanimously. C. ELECTION OF HISTORIAN FOR THE MUNICIPAL ARTS COMMISSION. Linda Jones motioned that Nelwyn Anderson be appointed as Historian, as recommended by the Nominations Committee at the September 9, 1993 meeting of the Municipal Arts Commission. The motion was seconded by Linda Eshom and passed unanimously. D. REQUEST FROM THE CENTER FOR HISPANIC ARTS AND INSTITUTE OF HISPANIC CULTURES REGARDING PLACEMENT AND SCHEDULING FOR A MURAL PROJECT APPROVED FOR THE 1993 SUBGRANT FUNDING CYCLE. Olivia Farrera noted that the grant award for the mural project at the Center for Hispanic Arts was given to the Instituto de Cultura Hispanica and that they should make the formal request for project change. Joe Morales motioned that, since neither group was represented, the item should be tabled. Joe Wilson seconded and the motion was passed unanimously. V. PUBLIC ART SLIDE PRESENTATION - NEWLYN ANDERSON Newlyn Anderson narrated her slide presentation called "The Treasure Hunt" which reviewed the City's Public Art Collection and privately owned, but publicly accessible, art work. VI. COMMITTEE REPORTS Mr. Frank Weathered, Chairman, appointed Olivia Farrera, Chairman of the Design Arts Committee with Chuck Anastos, Joe Morales and Linda Eshom on the committee. Linda Jones was appointed as Chairman of the Visual Arts Committee with John Yochem, Jr., Nelwyn Anderson, Chuck Anastos and Frank Lucido on the committee. Joe Morales was elected as Chairman of the Projects Committee. Project Committee members are: Ruth Delmar Sullivan, Joseph Wilson, Olivia Farrera and Barbara Silverman. VII. HEAR FROM THE PUBLIC: Ms. Betty Allen, Chamber Music Society, invited the Municipal Arts Commission to attend the Society's upcoming performances and thanked Commissioners and the City for their support. VIII. CURRENT CONCERNS: NONE IX. ADJOURNMENT - The meeting was adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
