CALL TO ORDER - The regular meeting of the Municipal Arts Commission was held on May 12, 1994 in the Committee Room, 1st floor of City Hall. Frank Weathered, General Chairman, called the meeting to order at 4:20 p.m. II. ROLL CALL - The roll was called after a quorum was present at 4:20 p.m. III. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES - John Yochem, Jr. motioned to approve the minutes of the April 14, 1994 meeting with the following corrections made by Frank Weathered: Section IV.F., changing "committee representatives" to "community representatives" and correcting the spelling for Mr. Rusty McMains; and Section VII., the spelling for Steven Gambill. The motion was seconded by Joseph Wilson, and the vote was unanimous. IV. DISCUSSION ITEMS: A. Update by the Institute of Hispanic Cultures and discussion on the status of the mural project to be located at the Center for Hispanic Arts. Ms. Alda Godines, Executive Director for the Center for Hispanic Arts, was present to report the status of the mural project. Ms. Godines explained that the artist was instructed to set the tile in the actual design in template form before preparing (scraping) the exterior wall of the center. Ms. Godines also explained that the Center for Hispanic Arts had offered the artist a facility for this preparation stage, and that the project has not yet started. The commission agreed that representatives from the Center for the Hispanic Arts, Institute of Hispanic Cultures and the artist, Rodrigo Benavidez be asked to attend the June 9, 1994 meeting to report all elements of the mural project. B. Discussion regarding 1993-1994 contracts for service with the Corpus Christi Arts Council. Jan Schmidt, Executive Director for the Corpus Christi Arts Council, was present to propose revisions made to the Arts Council's 93-94 contract. Ms. Schmidt reported that the revisions were made with the assistance of the Municipal Arts Commission's Projects Committee. Chuck Anastos, motioned to approved the revised 93-94 contract for services with the Corpus Christi Arts Council. Barbara Silverman seconded the motion, and the vote was unanimous. SCANNED V. COMMITTEE REPORTS: A. Projects Committee-Joseph Wilson reported that the subgrant peer panel orientation and the subgrant workshops were well attended and were successfully accomplished with the assistance of the current Projects Committee and Sam Logsdon, past Municipal Arts Commission member. Mr. Wilson reported that peer panel members expressed a concern regarding the appeal process and how their recommendations are supported at that time. The commission agreed that peer panel members should be aware of the scheduled appeal deadlines and should attend these meetings if they have concerns. B. Visual Arts Committee - Frank Weathered, reporting for Lynda Jones, announced that Ms. Dorothy Benson has agreed to serve on the art selection panel as a community representative for the "Gateway to the City" project. The Commission will take official action to approve Ms. Benson's membership at the June 9th meeting. Mr. Weathered also reported that the art selection panel for the donation of art by the Westside Business Association will be recommended at the June 9th meeting, and asked that the commission consider the following as arts professional representatives: Rachel Shodes, Audrey Sikes, Erma Janko, and Karen Stoval. VI. CURRENT CONCERNS - None reported. VII. HEAR FROM THE PUBLIC - Alda Godines, Executive Director for the Center for Hispanic Arts, was also present to inquire about a subgrant funded project by the South Texas Performance Company that is advertised to take place at the Center for Hispanic Arts. Ms. Godines explained that she and the Center's Board of Director's were unaware of this project and made no official agreement for the use of the Center. The commission agreed that a contract and/or an agreement of collaboration should have been requested for this project: Staff to research the proposed project agreement. VIII.
