CALL TO ORDER - The regular meeting of the Municipal Arts Commission was held on Thursday, August 11, 1994 in the Council Chambers, Committee Room, 1st floor of City Hall. Frank Weathered, General Chairman, called the meeting to order at 4:13 p.m. II. ROLL CALL - The roll was called and a quorum was present. III. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES - Joe Wilson motioned to approve the minutes of the July 14, 1994 meeting. Chuck Anastos seconded the motion, and the vote was unanimous. IV. DISCUSSION ITEM: Projects Committee recommendations for the 1994-1995 Subgrant Arts Funding. Organizational appeals were also heard at this time. Joseph Wilson, Projects Committee Chairperson, reported on the proceedings of the Subgrant Peer Panel Review meetings (July 21 & 21, 1994). Mr. Wilson shared the general themes of the panel's discussions which included artistic merit; artistic versus educational art; therapeutic art; and that CCISD should provide more financial assistance for their art projects. Appeals from the Corpus Christi Independent School District/Chula Vista and Wynn Seale Schools of Fine Arts, Creative Arts Center, and the South Texas Performance Company were heard, and discussion held. Mr. Wilson motioned that the Projects Committee's subgrant recommendation for CCISD remain unchanged. Seconded by Barbara Silverman, and the vote was unanimous. Mr. Wilson motioned that the Projects Committee's subgrant recommendation for the Creative Arts Center's projects A-C remain unchanged and that project D be increased by $1,000. Linda Eshom seconded the motion, and noted that CCISD is funding these particular projects. The vote was unanimous. SCANNED Mr. Wilson motioned that the Projects Committee's subgrant recommendation for the South Texas Performance Company remain unchanged. Seconded by John Yochem, the vote carried with two members abstaining. Mr. Wilson motioned that the Municipal Arts Commission approve the Projects Committee's recommendation for the 1994-1995 Subgrant Arts Funding. Seconded by Lynda Jones, the vote was unanimous. V. COMMITTEE REPORT: Nominating Committee - Frank Weathered appointed the following members to nominate the Municipal Arts Commission officers for the 1994-1995 term year: Joseph Wilson, Olivia Farrera, Marcy Sanchez-Hunter, and John Yochem. VI. CURRENT CONCERNS: Olivia Farrera expressed concern regarding KEDT-FM's "Performance Live" simulcast project (93-94 subgrant funded project) with the Executive Surf Club. Ms. Farrera questioned the profitability of this project, and noted that the city was not recognized for their sponsorship in a printed advertisement. Staff to contact KEDT-FM regarding the requirement for sponsorship. VII. HEAR FROM THE PUBLIC: Mary Herr, President of the Corpus Christi Arts Council, was present to report the status of the Arts Council's present situation. Ms. Herr explained that the Arts Council is dealing with serious problems regarding their finances and their decision to continue with the Cultural Arts Plan. Mr. Herr also explained that the city has requested an interim report on all activity pertaining to the contract between the Arts Council and the city for 1993-1994. Frank Weathered suggested that staff act as the liaison for the communication between the city and the Arts Council. Marcy Sanchez Hunter and Linda Eshom were previously appointed as commission representatives for the Cultural Arts Plan. VIII.
