CALL TO ORDER - The regular meeting of the Municipal Arts Commission was held on Thursday, January 12, 1995 in the Council Chambers, Committee Room, 1st floor of City Hall. Frank Weathered, Chairman, called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. II. ROLL CALL - The roll was called and a quorum was present. III. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES - Cornelia Gates motioned to accept the minutes of the December 8, 1994 meeting. Marcy Sanchez-Hunter seconded the motion, and the vote was unanimous. IV. DISCUSSION ITEM: A. Projects Committee recommendation for the 1995-1996 Subgrant Program. Discussion deferred to February, 1995 meeting. B. Visual Arts Committee recommendation regarding the art donation for the Oveal Williams Senior Center. Marion Loucks reported that the art project (estimated cost - $25,000) is to be funded by the Housing Authority and the Regional Transportation Authority. Lynda Jones, reporting for the Visual Arts Committee, recommended the approval of the art donation for the Oveal Williams Senior Center. Marcy Sanchez-Hunter motioned to accept the recommendation. Seconded by John Yochem, the vote carried (Cornelia Gates abstained from the vote). C. Projects Committee recommendation for the balance of the 1994-1995 Subgrant Program fund ($508.56). Discussion tabled. D. Projects Committee recommendation for the request by the Corpus Christi Ballet to amend their 1994-1995 subgrant contract. Van Phan Villa recommended to approve the Corpus Christi Ballet's request to substitute the Feld Ballet performance with the Jose Limon Dance Company of New York. Lynda Jones motioned to approve the recommendation. Cornelia Gates seconded the motion, and the vote was unanimous. SCANNED Municipal Arts Commission January 12, 1995 Regular Meeting Page 2 V. COMMITTEE REPORTS: No reports given. VI. CURRENT CONCERNS: Maintenance of Public Art - Lynda Jones expressed concerns regarding the deteriorating conditions and the responsibility for the maintenance of the public art in the Mariposa Sculpture Park. John Yochem will contact the YMCA to express the need for a clean-up in Mariposa Park and offer support from the commission to initiate the effort. Cornelia Gates suggested the possibility of contacting youth groups and making it a community project. Mr. Yochem will also contact Michael Manjarris regarding the commission's concerns for maintenance of the new art to be installed in 1995 (subgrant program project 1993-1994). Further discussion will be held at the February meeting. VII. HEAR FROM THE PUBLIC: No one present. VIII. ACTION ON ABSENCES: Olivia Farrera - Ms. Farrera regretfully announced her ineligibility to continue to serve on the Municipal Arts Commission due to her recent employment by the City of Corpus Christi.
