MUNICIPAL ARTS COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING - MARCH 9, 1995
CITY HALL - 1201 LEOPARD STREET

I. CALL TO ORDER - The regular meeting of the Municipal Arts Commission was held on
Thursday, March 9, 1995 in the Council Chambers, Committee Room, 1st floor of City Hall.
Joseph Wilson, Vice-Chairman, called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m.
II. ROLL CALL - The roll was called and a quorum was present.
III. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES - Sam Logsdon motioned to accept the minutes of the
February 6, 1995 meeting. Barbara Silverman seconded the motion, and the vote was
unanimous.
IV. DISCUSSION ITEM:
Discussion regarding vacancy on the Community Cultural Plan Steering Committee.
Recommendations were made by committee members regarding the vacancy on the
Community Cultural Plan Steering Committee. Barbara Silverman motioned that the
Municipal Arts Commission recommend to the City Council that Ms. Joan Allison, local
music professor, be selected to fill the vacancy on the Community Cultural Plan Steering
Committee. Chuck Anastos seconded the motion, and the vote was unanimous.
V. COMMITTEE REPORTS: No reports given.
VI. CURRENT CONCERNS:
Maintenance of Public Art - Commission members expressed concern regarding the
maintenance of public art including Danny O'Dowdy's sculpture, the "Sun Seeker" at the
Central Library and the fountain at the R.T.A.'s 6 points bus stop. Staff will contact the
parties responsible for the maintenance of each piece.
Barbara Silverman questioned the status of a protective barrier to surround the glass
sculpture at the Corpus Christi Airport. Chuck Anastos will report for the Design
Committee after researching options for the barrier.
Joseph Wilson requested a status report on the tile mural project at the Center for
Hispanic Arts.
