COMMITTEE ROOM, FIRST FLOOR CITY HALL - 1201 LEOPARD STREET MEMBERS PRESENT ABSENT STAFF Chuck Anastos Van Phan Villa Crystal Lyons Stewart Neely Raymond Gignac Marion Loucks Pamela Gooby George Dunson Alda Godines Brad Kisner Linda Young-Kaffie Nora Garcia Chris Barnes Ronnie Sepulveda Linda A.J.Jones Victor Martinez Dennis Kemmerer Fernando Benavides Lynne Sommers Celina Ybarbo Richard Delano Sam Logsdon Eddie Olivarez CALL TO ORDER : The regular meeting of the Arts& Cultural Commission was held on Thursday January 14, 1999, at the First Floor Committee Room of City Hall. Sam Logsdon, General Chairman called the meeting to order at 4:35p.m. ROLL CALL : The secretary called roll and it was announced that a quorum was present. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES : Van Phan Villa moved that the minutes of the November 12, and December 10 meetings of the Arts & Culture Commission be approved as read. The motion was seconded by Chuck Anastos and was unanimously approved. HEAR FROM THE PUBLIC : none. ACTION ON ABSENCES : Chuck Anastos moved that all absences be excused for the November 12 and December 10 meetings, with the exception of the absence of Victor Martinez at the November meeting. The motion was seconded and unanimously approved. STAFF REPORT : Pamela Gooby reported that she will be meeting with the Bayfront Art Selection Panel on Tuesday and that they will be looking at the last of the six proposals. It was also reported that an exhibition of the proposals would be held in the spring for public review and comment. Ms. Gooby also reported that Nora Garcia will no longer be able to be on the the Bayfront Public Arts Selection Panel due to the fact that she is now on the Arts & Cultural Commission and cannot serve on both. The Commission discussed the optimum days for the annual goal setting workshop and decided to meet on January 30, 9am to 12 noon at City Hall. (Victor Martinez arrived at 4:47) COMMITTEE REPORTS : SCANNED Arts Marketing: The next issue of Expressivity will go to press the end of January. Public Arts Public Space: Lynda Jones reported that the committee would exhibit Bayfront Art proposals at the Art Center for the first two weeks of March. After that they would be displayed at the Art Museum of South Texas. Youth Arts: No report. Cultural & Arts Development: Dennis Kemmerer reported that the Arts and Cultural Committee had met on December 17 and discussed the criteria for judging the performing artists for the Downtown Program. The committee met again December 23 to choose the locations. Diversity and Inclusion: No report. CURRENT CONCERNS : Mr. Anastos explained to Brad Kisner and Dennis Kemmerer that the 6 proposals that were being discussed were the finalists for a monumental sculpture for Corpus Christi. He also explained that they will all most likely be contacted by the press and by citizens and that they should be informed on the project and help get positive publicity.
