IU CALL TO ORDER: 1:30PM Present: Chair Shawn Karaca, Vice -Chair David Walker, Burris McRee, Tim Voorkamp, Michael York, Absent: Bryan Johnson APPROVAL OF MINUTES: February 27, 2019 Motion to approve this item was made by Burris McRee and seconded by Vice -Chair David Walker. The motion passed unanimously. APPEALS — DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ON THE FOLLOWING: 1. Appeals a. Appeal No. ZBA 0319-02, Island Foundation, Inc.: Variance to reduce the landscaping area requirement by 50% as required per Section 7.3.6.c.1 of the Unified Development Code (UDC) on a tract of land addressed as 15437 South Padre Island Drive (Park Road 22) and described as Lot 13, Block 16, Padre Island, located on the west side of South Padre Island Drive (Park Road 22), south of Whitecap Boulevard, and north of Encantada Avenue. Andrew Dimas, Project Manager, made the staff presentation. John Dykema, project architect, explained because the property in question is on a comer lot, the landscaping requirements are more extensive then they would be otherwise. He reminded the Board that the existing parking lots will remain in use with no modification. Colleen McIntyre, Superintendent of the Seashore Learning Academy, explained to the Board the need for current parking levels, and the hardship that would occur if parking spaces were lost to landscaping. Mrs. McIntyre further explained that the school does not provide bus service, therefore pic-up/drop-off areas are vital to the schools operation. Motion to approve this item was made by Michael York and seconded by Tim Voorkamp. The motion passed unanimously. DIRECTOR'S REPORT: Bill Green informed the Board of a UDC Evaluation Open -Door meeting that took place on Thursday, March 21, 2019. He invited the Board to submit any comments they had related to the UDC to DSOutreachna cctexas.com. PUBLIC COMMENT: None. VI.
