I. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 3:02 p.m.
II. Roll Call
Board members present: John Dykema, Chris Hamilton, John Kendall, Mike Lippincott, and
Ricardo Martinez (arrived at 3:18 p.m.)
Staff present: Sylvia Carrillo and Elsa Martinez
III. Approval of Minutes:
April 19, 2012, Regular Meeting
May 23, 2012, Special Called Meeting
Mr. Hamilton made a motion to approve the minutes of the April 19 regular meeting as
presented; the motion was seconded by Mr. Lippincott and carried 4 -0.
Mr. Lippincott made a motion to approve the minutes of the May 23 special called meeting as
presented; the motion was seconded by Mr. Kendall and carried 4 -0.
IV. Review, Discuss, and Act on Board Vacancies and Provide Recommendation for Submission to
City Council to Fill Vacancies [Section 14 -206 (a) (1), (2) (a)]
A. Building Industry, At -Large (two positions)
B. Non - building Industry (one position)
C. General Contractor (one position)
After consideration of the applicants' biographies, Mr. Hamilton made a motion to recommend:
Mr. Vincent Doyle for the non - building industry and Mr. Ray .Tones for the building industry
board positions as primary nominees to City C'ouncil. Altnernates for non - building industry are
Mr. Matt Teil� e, Jr. and for the building industry, Gene Clancy. The motion i�as seconded by Mr.
Lippincott. The motion carried 5 -0.
V. Interim Director's /Building Official's Report
A. Department Updates
B. Staffing
Ms. Sylvia Carrillo provided the board with a department update informing that the department
moves forward with the adoption of budget. She commented that this budget includes the
building official position and a project manager position equivalent to the position of an
assistant building official. She informed the board that the department received approval on the
combination inspector classifications. Ms. Carrillo informed of the 14 applications received for

the building official position and provided a timeline of the interview selection timeline and
process. Ms. Carillo also informed of the advertisement for two plan reviewer 1 positions and the
possibility of re- advertising for said positions. She added that the department has also
advertised for a mechanical /plumbing inspector and the possibility of posting for a combination
inspector to be able to attract a salary that applicants may be interested in making application.
Ms. Carrillo informed of an outside vendor who has contacted the department to offer inspection
services, but added that this service would come at a costly expense to the department. Ms.
Carrillo also informed that an offer has been made for the engineer position in the Land
Development division and the candidate has accepted the offer.
VI. Public Comments
Board members may not deliberate or make a decision on any matter presented at this time.
The Open Meetings Act limits Board response to only two options: 1) a statement of specific
factual information given in response to an inquiry; or 2) a recitation of existing policy in
response to the inquiry. Any deliberation of or decision about the subject shall be limited to a
proposal to place the subject on the agenda for a subsequent meeting.
No one addressed the board during public forum.

No items were identified for the next board meeting.
