Hines, Recording Secretary The meeting was called to order by Chairman Braselton at 1:45 p.m. The first item • of business was roll call. Mr. Dodson & Mr. Skrobarczyk were absent. No objection to absences. The next item of business was approval and/or correction of the minutes from the previous meeting. Motion was made by Mr. Garcia, seconded by Mr. Cotton to approve as submitted. The next item of business was the public hearing for BC 04--02 - South Texas Institute for Arts, 1902 N. Shoreline. Mr. John Dykema presented plans and site plans requesting a variance to Section 1004.1.4 of the City of Corpus Christi Building Code fro the upper (2nd) level exit door having a horizonal separation of 50' in lieu of 66 feet as required. Mr. Kendall presented the appeal and stated that the stairs are closer than the distance allowed required by Section 1004.1.4. The distance can't be closer than '/2 of the diagonal section they serve. Mr. Dykema would like to amend the appeal not to have the sprinkler system. Questions by Mr. Garcia, Cotton, Braselton is asked what is the distance from the door to the Director's office and what is the overall occupancy load. Mr. Kendall stated that it would be 200 foot for non-sprinkled building and 250 foot for a sprinkler building. After much discussion, Mr. Garcia made a motion to deny the variance, seconded by Mr. Gonzales due to the fire exit is not far enough apart. Mr . Dykema asked what would • he be allowed to make the motion passed. Mr. Garcia recommendation along with the conjunction with the city and architect to see if sprinkle only the second floor with 1-hr wall SCANNED P.O. Question asked by Mr. Cotton if he (Mr. Dykema) would be willing to come by to the board and get with the city. Mr. Garcia made another motion that the board give Mr. Dykema the option of choosing two differncen method to bring this mezzanine into compliance. 1.) Sprinkle with a 2-hr wall elevator only on the second floor. 2.) to shaft exhaust system and do a 2 hr wall on the whole second floor only. Mr. Garcia amend the motion to require a fire and smoke detection system on the second floor also in the elevator shaft, seconded by Mr. Cotton. Motion passed unanimously. The next item of business was the Building Official Report. Mr. Kendall stated that he is Interim Building Official for a period of three (3) months while Mr. Sosa work on the One Stop Development Center. Question asked where are we on the adoption of the Code. Mr. Kendall stated that it is going to City Council the end of December and become effective the first of the year. • The next item of business is discussion of pending and/old business items. Mr. Cotton suggested that we move the board meetings for November & December to the second Wednesday of the month because of the holiday if they have any appeals. There were no petitions.
