Hines, Recording Secretary The meeting was called to order by Chairman Braselton at 1:54 p.m. in the Committee Room. The first item of business was roll call. Mr. Skrobarczyk&Mr. Dodson were absent. The next item of business was approval and/or correction of the minutes from the previous meeting(December 11&12, 2002). Motion made by Mr. Garcia, seconded Mr. Wheaton to approve as submitted. The next item of business was the Building Official Report and discussion of pending and/or old business items. Mr. Kendall stated that we are still on track for the move to the Frost Bank. Comments by Mr. Garcia, if we go to the table on the Texas Department of Insurance and we adopt the International Residential Code are we going strictly from the homeowner's point of view or are we going to adhere to two codes? We cannot build two codes? Texas Department of Insurance was not going to grant the City official the ability to inspect for Texas Department of Insurance. Mr. Kendall will check to see how this will handle the amendment. Motion made by Mr. Cotton, seconded by Mr. Garcia to suspend and adjourn at 1:30 p.m. The meeting recovenued at 1:35 p.m., December 12, 2002. The first item of business was roll call. Mr. Garcia&Mr. Skrobarczyk were absent. Motion made by Mr. Cotton, seconded by Mr. Gonzales to excuse Mr. Dodson from the previous meeting. SCANNED P.O. Box 9277 • Corpus Christi,Texas 78469-9277 • (361) 880-3000 *00 0410 Building Code of Appeals Advisory Board December 11 & 12, 2002 page 2 The next item of business was the public hearing for BC- 05-06, Wilcox Furniture Store, 9602 UpRiver Road requesting a variance to Section 903.7.1 of the City Building Code and to allow the placement of a 4 hour fire wall along with smoke and heat detection system in lieu of the required sprinkler system. Mr. Whitmore represented the appellant and gave a brief description what they wanted. Question asked are there any plans? Are there any proposed changes? This is consider a Type 4 building. After discussing different methods and ideas from Mr. Borden, and the board members the appellant stated that they would do what is required to meet code. The board suggested three options: 1) Subdivide, 2) fire proof, 3) sprinkle. Motion made by Mr. Dodson that the plans be revised to the satisfaction of the Fire Marshall, if a solution could not be reached the appellant would come back before the board, seconded by Mr. Cotton. The board is asking that city staff bring back an update to the next meeting. Motion passed unanimously. There were no petitions.
