MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BUILDING CODE BOARD OF APPEALS April 25, 1991 BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Phillip Skrobarczyk, Vice Chairman Miles Graham Tommy McDonald Bill Osborne Darlene Painter BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT : Bill McCord, Chairman STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT: Lorenzo Gonzalez, Building Official Erik Johnson, Chief Building Inspector Elizabeth Kay Butler, Senior Secretary Vice Chairman Skrobarczyk called the meeting to order at 1:32 p.m. , in the Committee Room on the first floor of City Hall. ************************************************************************* APPEAL NO. 91-4 The public hearing was opened on Appeal No. 91-4. The appellant was K & L Homes & Interiors, Inc. , representing Mr. & Mrs. Ronald Chachere requesting a variance to Section 804.3.4 of the Corpus Christi Building Code. Property Description: Lot 9, Block 2, Bent Tree, 2814 Bretshire. Mr. Lorenzo Gonzalez, Building Official, explained that the fireplace was over six square feet in area and as such the hearth extensions were required to be at least 20" on the front and 12" beyond the opening on the sides according to the Building Code. The fireplace as constructed does not meet the front projection requirements. Mrs. Kathy Chachere explained that they had reviewed their problem with the Randolph Fire and Hearth Company and they were recommending the installation of a fire screen. She added that the recommendation called for a custom double mesh fire screen made of a heavy gage expanded metal which would be permanently installed. Mrs. Chachere then showed the Board pictures of the hearth. After a brief discussion a motion was made by Mr. McDonald, seconded by Mr. Graham and passed with Mrs. Painter abstaining to grant the variance with the stipulation that they install a fire extinguisher and 930°:r PO. A motion was made by Mr. McDonald, seconded by Mr. Osborne and passed unanimously to approve the minutes of the last meeting as submitted.
