Campbell, Belinda Flores Health District Attendees: Diane Prime Visitor(s)/Guests: ROLL CALL: Dr. Tony Diaz called the meeting to order at 12:00 p.m. REVIEW and POSSIBLE ACTION on JANUARY MINUTES: The Board reviewed the January minutes. ACTIONS TAKEN: • Sandra Heatherley motioned to approve the January minutes. • The motion was seconded by Dr. Sefcik. • The minutes was unanimously approved by voice vote. Review Absences for January: Hannah Chipman, and Martin Johnson • Sandra Heatherley motioned to excuse Dr. Johnson. Dr. Diaz seconded the motion. No action was taken on the absence for Hannah Chipman: she was not present to give her excuse. The Board unanimously agreed to excuse Dr. Johnson. GUEST SPEAKER: Dr. Cathy Miller - Trafficking Dr. Miller rescheduled her presentation to the March meeting Guest: Jody Houston, Director of the Offices of Food Services The discussion focused mainly around the topic of kids throwing away the fruits and vegetables from their food plates at school. Ms. Houston shared that it was very challenging to keeps kids from throwing away the fruits and vegetables. Since her last visit, Ms. Houston was unable to get the time to do a plate way study to determine a measurement as to how much fruits and Citizens Advisory Health Board February 7, 2019 Minutes 1 vegetables are being thrown away. The Board was told that the Office of Food Services is constantly trying to find ways to keep the lunch interesting so that the students would like the food offered. There are also surveys, tests of new products, and meeting with High School students to get feedback on the lunch menu being provided, in order to develop menus that meet the overall needs of the students. Ms. Houston graciously extended an invitation to the Board to have lunch with her at one of the schools. Public Comments There were no public comments. Board Comments: The Board commented on Measles and obtaining a report, the requirements for a Measles Vaccination and educating the community about the importance of vaccinations. Comments were also made regarding the exemptions that were allowable for vaccinations. A question was asked about the Health District's challenges after Hurricane Harvey.
