Campbell Members Absent: Hannah Chipman, Sandra Heatherley, Krista Ramirez Health District Attendees: Annette Rodriguez, Dr. Dante Gonzalez, Diane Prime Visitor(s)/Guests: ROLL CALL: Dr. Sefcik called the meeting to order at 12:26 p.m. REVIEW and POSSIBLE ACTION on March MINUTES: The Board reviewed the March minutes. ACTIONS TAKEN: • Dr. Johnson motioned to approve the March minutes. • The motion was seconded by Dr. Diaz. • The March minutes was unanimously approved by voice vote. Review Absences for March: Hannah Chipman, Aislynn Campbell and Krista Ramirez • Dr. Diaz motioned to excuse Aislynn Campbell for her verbal excuse Dr. Johnson seconded the motion. No action was taken on the absence for Hannah Chipman and Krista Ramirez: they were not present to give their excuse. The Board unanimously agreed to excuse Aislynn Campbell. Staff Report- Exemptions for Immunizations, Jessica Hernandez, Program Manager, Immunizations Clinic Jessica Hernandez shared with the Board a handout outlining the reasons individuals can file for exemptions from vaccines. The conditions are: medical reasons, active duty with armed forces of the United States and reasons of conscience including religious belief. The ways to apply for any of these exemptions were also briefly discussed. The discussion then shifted to measles which Jessica reported that there has not been a reported case in Nueces County since 2005. Discussions also continued about ways to reverse the negative views that some Citizens Advisory Health Board April 4, 2019 Minutes 1 have regarding vaccines. Jessica shared some of the ways the Immunizations clinic been promoting the benefits of vaccines. Some are through ongoing prevention in-service meetings, outreach at Head starts and at pre-K registrations. The clinic also participates in numerous Health fairs in order to encourage vaccinations. The Board discussed if there were other avenues that could be explored as means to encourage vaccinating. First the Board discussed briefly how to analyze if the efforts are working and then if there are grants specifically to educate on the benefits of vaccines. The Board asked Jessica to submit additional ways to educate the Community. Staff Presentation — Kevin Hensley, Program Manager, STD/HIV Clinic Due to the time constraint, the presentation was re-scheduled for next month's meeting. Agenda Items for May • Report from STD/HIV Clinic • Update on the services at the Health District Public Comments There were no public comments. Board Comments: The Board commented on how the status of the proposal for "Friends of the Health District".
